Tell Me You'd Like Boys Like Me Better
Denny Lachance is the perfect boyfriend. It's a simple fact, and when you think about the relationship you two have, you know you would never change a thing. He's got plenty of great qualities that any girl would want. A nice smile, handsome face, unmatched sports prowess, and his soft, sweet demeanor made him a catch.
He was a good guy, really, but none of his perfect qualities were what kept you around. His other traits, the ones a girlfriend should like a little less, were the ones that have kept you together for the past two years.
He didn't expect, or even want, anything from you, intimacy-wise or romantically. Really, he couldn't care less who you went around with, how you dressed or acted, or who you spent your time ‘cheating’ with. Cheating felt like a loose term to you, especially with Denny's consent and knowledge, but you knew how it would look to anyone else.
Denny himself had very little interest in dating, and you were quite sure he had asked you out to pry his mother off his back about the subject. When you appeared together in public, it was all fine and well, but any date felt like hanging out with someone who was barely a friend. He truly had no standards for you.
He didn't expect you to call. Hell, he was glad you never did because he never would. You had so much free time, as he only needed to see you enough to keep questions at bay. After that, he didn't care. If you got in any sort of trouble, it made no difference to him because you didn't drag him into it. You hated to use the word, but it was professional. Transactional maybe?
But your absolute favorite thing about good guy Denny Lachance was how perfect he was with your parents. His whole nice guy act made him like honey, and your parents were the naive flies who couldn't resist a taste. They loved him for you, hoping one day he'd calm you down or tame you or something equally as lame.
This would never happen, of course. Your parents trusted him just a bit too much for what was happening right under their noses. His reputation preceded him, and since you'd begun dating him, he was the only excuse you needed. If you wanted to go somewhere, you'd say you're hanging out with Denny. It was last minute? Denny just invited you. You showed up home late again? Not a question is asked because in their minds, you were with Denny, so nothing could be wrong.
And wonderful, perfect, Denny would pick you up, all smiles and niceties to placate them until you were too far to be watched. Honestly, sometimes you wished you liked him the way you were supposed to. The way your parents and his both expected. But you didn't, you never had. And any guilt you felt for lying to your parents washed away the moment you got out of Denny's car and hopped into the back of Ace’s convertible, already in Eyeball's arms.
You and Eyeball had been seeing each other longer than you had been ‘dating’ Denny, but he wasn't the kind of guy you'd ever bring home. The Chambers kids had a reputation that he obviously lived up to, and sure, maybe helped create.. God, your mother would have a heart attack if she saw you on his arm, the happiest you'd ever been.
Your parents would never approve of you going with someone like him. It was the only reason you said yes when Denny asked you out in the 10th grade to begin with. He kept your parents off your back the same way you did for him. However, it had one major drawback that you were now finding out.
Senior prom. There was no way you could get away with not going; both your parents and his would have a fit if you didn't. Your mother had already bought you a hideous dress, and Denny's parents had rented him a tux. You had agreed to go out of necessity, figuring you could duck out after pictures and go hang out with Eyeball at the lake.
But it would seem that that wasn't something you could get away with, so instead, you were in Denny's car, on the way to prom with no way of knowing how long you'd keep Eyeball waiting. If he waited around at all.
You hummed noncommittally, glancing out the window and watching the world pass. Denny only sighed slightly, his hands tightening on the steering wheel. He didn't really understand you. He didn't understand most girls, and it's the reason he never wanted a real girlfriend.
“I don't wanna be doing this either.” He reminded, and you nodded despite knowing he would never tear his eyes from the road in the same way Eyeball would. After a small pause, you sighed and looked forward.
“I know you don't,” you spoke placatingly, mouth pulled into a thin line. The shade of lipstick your mother had put on you was repulsive, you couldn't help but think. “I just don't understand why I can't leave after we get our picture taken.”
He didn't turn to you, only offering a somewhat sympathetic frown. “We were nominated for prom king and queen, and if we win and you aren't there, word will get around,” he started. And he had a point, which you of course hated. “If people start asking questions, this is ruined for both of us.”
“Right,” you acknowledged, tapping your fingers on your thighs. “And after the king and queen are announced?”
“If we win, we take pictures and give a cute little speech. If not, we don't. Either way, you're free to run off to your little stray dropout,” he allowed, smiling slightly. He didn't care that you were with Eyeball, though he never hid his distaste for him either. You didn't care what he said or what he thought when it came to that subject though.
You smiled at the thought of leaving prom, ditching these silly heels your father had paid for, and booking it to the lake. And you could only hope Eyeball would be there, waiting. You wouldn't blame him if he wasn't, you wouldn't want to wait around for hours either.
He knew you were going to the prom, of course, and understood why you couldn't get out of it. But much like you, he was under the impression you would be ditching after the first 10 minutes. You sighed once more, picking at the baby blue fabric of the gown you wore.
The drive was quick at the very least, maybe one of the only perks of living in a small town. Once the car was parked, Denny made his way over to open your door for you. You could gag at the charming 'gentleman' routine, but instead, you let him take your hand and help you out.
“You look nice in your dress,” he mumbled, and you wanted to laugh. You knew him well enough by now, and while he was genuinely a good guy, a lot of the time, he just said what he was pretty sure was the right thing to say. Like he was following a script.
You only rolled your eyes at him, a bit playful as you both approached the school. This almost made you wish you had dropped out when you turned 18 like Eyeball had. But not even your little game of house with Denny could save you from your parents if you were to do that.
“It's only a few hours, it'll be fine,” Denny assured, feeling how tense your arm was as he locked his around it. You nodded, watching him present your tickets at the door and following him into the gym.
Prom was a sensory nightmare, just too many bright lights and shiny things for your taste. And the music selection could use some improvement. But you went about it dutifully, smiling widely, faking it, and letting Denny wrap his arms around your waist from behind.
The camera flashed, and you figured that was all you had to do until the king and queen announcements. You did give Denny one dance, mainly for appearances but also just for a bit of fun. It wasn't a slow dance, you'd never be caught dead like that, but it was an ok distraction.
Still, you wished someone had spiked the punch because it felt like the night would never end. Every song dragged on, and for the most part, you found yourself under the bleachers, alone. Denny was with his friends, which you were glad for because being by yourself was just better at this point.
Every minute felt like an hour, and when your eyes found the clock, you swore you could die. Honestly, a part of you just wanted to nap and let the time pass quickly. But if someone found you passed out under the bleachers, it'd just be a headache.
So you sat and waited, feeling ridiculous, all decked out just to watch a senior prom happen in front of you. You wondered if Eyeball hadn't dropped out, would you be the type of couple who went to prom? You could sort of see it; you knew he cleaned up nice.
The thought of convincing him to dance almost made you laugh, and honestly, you would hate it just as much as he would. Still, it might have been fun if it were him. But it wasn't. It was Denny Lachance, who you hadn't seen for a good hour and a half (much to your delight) and who you couldn't wait to get away from fully for the night.
After another half hour had passed, you sighed, finding the emergency exit and pushing the door open slightly. You stood half in, half out, not wanting to be completely locked out. With a tired sigh, you dug a loose pack of cigarettes and a lighter from your purse. The fact that they liked to wait till the end of these things to announce the prom court just pissed you off.
About halfway through your smoke session (3 cigarettes in if you wanna get specific), you felt a light touch on your elbow. You looked up to see Denny with that same charming smile you had grown used to.
“Figured I'd find you here,” he laughed, watching with those kind, judgment-free eyes as you stubbed the cigarette out on the side of the door frame. You dropped the butt and let him lead you back into the gym, seeing your principal take the stage. A small sigh of relief escaped you as you and Denny wandered to the front of the crowd and watched.
It was a short and sweet announcement, and honestly, you were thankful not to have won. Going on stage and doing a speech sounded awful right now, and as soon as the actual winners were announced, you slipped your heels off. You leaned up, pressing a small kiss to Denny's cheek for anyone who may have been watching.
He shifted awkwardly at the interaction, rubbing the back of his neck. “Have a nice night, beautiful.” He spoke, respectful as ever, as he waved you off. You only grinned, grabbing your heels from the ground and throwing them at him to keep in his car. He caught them in one hand and gave a small nod of understanding, watching as you slipped out the back exit of the gym and into the night.
You bunched up the skirt of your ugly dress, pulling it up to your knees so you could run. That was the second time that night you found yourself thankful for living in a small town. It only ended up being a 6-minute run to reach the forest line, which you walked along for another 3 until you came to the lake.
You sighed, grateful when you saw Eyeball's car parked by the dirt path that led to the lake. And you felt your heartbeat pick up at the man himself, sitting at the edge of the water. You slowly made your way to him, loving the feeling of the long grass against your legs.
You were silent on your feet, the dirt muffling any sound as you stood behind him. A smile found its way onto your face, and you crouched down slightly, bringing your hands around his face to cover his eyes.
Your voice was gentle as you leaned in, face next to his ear. He was quick in his movements, twisting around and snatching you by the waist. With no apparent effort, he got to his feet, lifting you and holding you firmly against his chest. His lips found yours, and the touch was like a much-needed painkiller after prom. You wrapped your arms around his neck, melting into the kiss and relishing in the way he held you.
He nipped at your bottom lip lightly, teasing you. “Where the fuck were you?” the words came out in a soft huff, making you shiver and hold on tighter. As you pulled fully back to let yourself breathe, he set you down cautiously, like you were fragile, and watched you with careful eyes.
“Prom. I couldn't escape,” you explained, offering a guilty grin. He looked you up and down, taking in your appearance. From your now smeared lipstick and wrinkled dress to your bare, grass-stained feet.
His brows drew together. “Uhh.. You look good in that dress,” He offered, looking weary. You rolled your eyes, charmed by his earnest attempt.
A snort escaped you as you shook your head at him. “No, I don’t.” His shoulders eased at your words. Once he was assured that you weren't expecting any compliments about your get-up, he relaxed, nodding in agreement.
“Thank god, that dress is... really bad-” he mumbled, cheeks red. You looked down at it, noting how it didn't flatter your figure at all. It was boxy, too long and a terrible color on you.
Those thoughts were interrupted as you felt his hands, large and rough, gingerly encircling your own. And you swore the feeling of having him with you like this was enough to assure you you'd never need anything else.
“I'm sorry I'm so late. Denny and I were nominated, and if we won and I wasn't there-” He took one hand away from yours, bringing it to your face and letting his thumb brush over your bottom lip, effectively silencing you.
“Don't talk about him right now,” He murmured. The words were commanding, but his voice was gentle, and you found yourself blushing at the way he spoke to you. Pleased with your reaction, he continued. “We’re grown now, you could just drop the stupid act you and him got going”
You sighed, letting your head fall to rest on his chest for a moment. “I wish I could.. Just because I'm an adult now doesn't mean my parents will let me do whatever I want... I still live with them. It'll be different when we find a place of our own.” This wasn't a new conversation. Eyeball was sweet, he loved you tenderly, and was more understanding than most guys would be about the fact that you had a ‘boyfriend’.
He still hated it, though. Hated that he couldn't show you off in public, hated that he was a dirty secret, and that in everyone else's mind, you were ‘Denny Lachance’s girl'. It was insufferable. He could endure for you a thousand times over, and he would, no questions asked. But sometimes the jealousy just made his muscles itch under his skin.
“I just hate the thought of you on that pantywaist’s arm,” he admitted, voice slightly gruff. You sighed, content. You found his tight-lined frown kinda cute.
“Yeah.. I’d hate to see some skank on your arm,” you conceded, fully understanding why this situation wasn't his favorite. “Buuut, it's temporary. And that ‘pantywaist’ makes sure we get plenty of time together,” you pointed out, taking his hand back and pulling him to sit with you.
He sighed, running his free hand through his hair, rolling his eyes at the thought. “You're never gonna see something like that,” He couldn't even think of looking at any other girl, not how he looked at you. “Me, however, I have to see it and hear about it constantly,” He added, turning slightly and pushing himself so he was hovering over you.
Your eyes locked on his as he towered over you, and you swore your heart was about to stop in your chest. “Come on Eyeball.. he ain't nothing to me and you know it,” you mumbled, body tensing as his hand trailed up your side, your neck, and eventually landed on your chin.
His grip was firm but tender, purposefully keeping you in place without causing you any discomfort. He leaned closer, almost enough to brush your lips together, but paused before you could make that happen. You could feel his breath fan your face, warm and inviting. It was intoxicating.
“I'm so sick of seeing you act like his girl.” The words came out calmly, but there was a certain edge to them that made a shiver run up your spine. You bit your lip, keeping your eyes on him, completely unable to tear them away. His body pressed against yours, warm and grounding. “Tell me you're not.”
He knew you weren't, but he needed to hear it from you. And you knew what he really wanted to hear, even if he hadn't voiced that part. You knew he was saying ‘Tell me you're not his because you're mine,’ and that made your knees weak. You took his face, holding it as you tilted your head and smiled softly.
“I’m not Denny's girl. Never will be. I'm yours, Eyeball, in the same way that you're mine. And that ain't changing.” Your voice was rough, and your words were conclusive. Like it was an absolute fact with no room to argue, because to you it was. Eyeball bit back a small, pleased sound, unable to keep himself off of you at that point.
Everything around you had shifted. It had gone from cool night air that felt calm and refreshing to an almost suffocatingly hot atmosphere.
He reached around you, movements urgent as he fiddled with the zipper of your dress. “Need you outta this ugly thing.” The words were muffled against your lips, and it made your blood buzz with excitement. You helped him maneuver your unflattering dress off, slipping it down your body and kicking it off. You laid it against the ground and leaned back on it, using it as a barrier for the wet grass. His mouth didn't leave yours once during that process, and you couldn’t care less about the burning in your lungs. You just wanted more of him.. As much of him as you could take.
He was the one to break away, breath ragged and looking like it hurt to stop more than the lack of oxygen ever could. His eyes were heavy with lust as he took in the sight of you, stripped down to your bra and panties. You found yourself smirking at his expression, pleased as ever with the effect just the sight of you had on him. He had a way of looking at you like you were the only thing in the world that mattered to him in that moment, and it made your insides twist in the best possible way. Your eyes narrowed, almost predatory as you licked your lower lip.
He got back down to his hands and knees immediately, crawling forward with slow, precise movements that made you feel flustered. You reached for the hem of his shirt, fingers dipping under the fabric and lightly tracing his abdomen before pulling back to rip the article of clothing off of him. He ducked his head, helping you undress him, completely turned on by your rough and fervent movements.
His cheeks and ears flushed red as you ate up the sight of his body. He never quite got used to the way you stared, so unabashedly attracted to him, not hiding how much you wanted him or his touch. You reached up, hooking your arms around his neck and leading him back down to you. You brought your face to his throat, leaving a trail of hot, open-mouthed kisses along his skin.
He grabbed you by the hips in an instant, drawing you closer to him and keeping you there with an unyielding grip. “Lift your hips.” The words were hot against your temple as his fingers hooked into the waistband of your panties. You nodded against his shoulder, pushing your hips up and off the ground just long enough for him to tear your undergarments down your legs and toss them carelessly to the side.
He pinned you down fully, his hands in the damp grass on either side of your head as you looked up at him with those lustful eyes. And he wasn't strong enough to keep you waiting, even if he had wanted to. He brought his hand back down, setting it on your inner thigh and trailing up and in.
“Fuck, jeez Eyeball-” The yelp left you suddenly, your back arching high and a shiver running through you. A shiver you wish stemmed from pleasure.
He blinked, withdrawing his fingers and offering a small, bashful grin as he rubbed his palms together quickly, attempting to warm them. You watched, tilting your head and frowning as you attempted to get over the shock of his icy touch against you. “Yeah, you better warm ‘em up… dick-”
“Yeah, I’m workin’ on it doll.” He moved them quicker as he worked under your impatient stare, his desire to please making him want to go double time to make this good for you. You couldn't help but be endeared by it, leaning forward a bit to grab him and help. He gave you his full attention, eyes trained on you as you rubbed circles against his palms with your thumbs.
Once you felt like his touch would be warm enough, you leaned back, pulling him down on top of you and letting his lips take yours. You gasped into the kiss as his fingers dug into the soft skin of your hips again, gripping tight enough to leave marks that would last for days. You knew you would see them in the mirror the next morning and feel that same dizzy arousal all over again when you did.
Everything moved so fast, but it all felt like it was in slow motion for you. Your thighs slung over his shoulders, and tense to the point of aching as they tightened around his head, clenching. His touch was hot against you, keeping your body still while his tongue moved against you in a way that made it impossible for you to do so yourself.
He was a tease, bringing you to your edge like he owned your body and orchestrated your reactions, holding you there till it hurt. Till you begged, till you clawed at his scalp and your taut muscles were sore. It was ecstasy in the best and worst way, and he didn’t relent until you came undone. Your orgasm tore through, hot and overwhelming, leaving you limp in his arms.
You panted, chest heavy, but you didn't stop him from eating every breath you took like a man who had been starved. Tasting yourself when he kissed you wasn’t new but it still made a small tremor run through your body. You moaned into his mouth, arms slack around his neck as shoved his jeans down with one hand, getting them about halfway down his thighs.
That was enough for both of you.
His lips pressed against your collarbone as you spread your thighs for him, eager and desperate as he sunk into you. He exhaled, the sound shaky as he bottomed out inside of you, staying still for a moment to just feel you like this. You bit your lip, wrapping your legs around his hips and locking your ankles behind his back, allowing him to press deeper.
“You’re mine.” The words were seared into your skin as he nipped at it, and you whimpered in response. It was a statement, but the way he had said it felt somewhere between a plea and a promise to you. A promise that had you dizzy and desperate. You shifted your hips as he began to thrust, trying to match his pace and let him take you.
You lifted a hand to his cheek, guiding his face up from your chest and to your own. “All yours,” You agreed, the words slipping out between cries and weak, pleased moans. He kissed you, rough and messy but passionate and intense with just a bit too much clashing teeth. He swallowed every sound that he tore from your throat, loving how you reacted to him. He adored every sound, every scratch and bite, and the way you tightened around him when he angled his hips just right.
“Fuck Richie—” The cry was muffled, and your use of his name over his nickname earned you a harder, sharper thrust. Whether it was a reward or just a side effect of catching him off guard, you had no idea. You also didn’t really care, just locking your legs around him tighter and biting at his bottom lip as a thank you. His grip tightened impossibly, his hips rocking into yours as he watched you unravel beneath him, his pace never slowing.
“Love you..” your words were whined into the kiss before you broke it, bathing in the afterglow of your orgasm with your head dipped back against the ground. Another deep thrust made your eyes go wide, your body tingling from the overstimulation of it. One of his hands left your hip, trailing up to hold the back of your head firmly in place.
He didn't say it, but you could feel it. Your words affected him, and his pace became almost punishing. Every bit of pleasure was tinged with a bit of pain as he continued to thrust into you.
Your moans left in sobs as you held onto him, nails digging into the backs of his shoulders. Enough to draw blood you were sure. It all almost felt like too much but you couldn't find yourself wanting to stop. You pushed through, eyes screwed shut and mouth hanging open, throat dry and becoming sore from the cries.
“I'm so over your game of house” he snapped the words into the crook of your neck, burying his face there and punctuating the sentence with another thrust. “Can't stand seeing you with him anymore-” He had slowed a bit, drawing it out to savor the way your moans melted into screams. Screams for him.
You wanted to respond but your head wasn't there. His movements had made both your brain and your voice useless and untrustworthy. All you could do was uselessly nod as he snapped his hips forward again, your eyes nearly rolling back into your head. You had the faintest feeling of something, maybe guilt? But it was hazy, under a layer of fog.
He was mostly silent after that, his teeth latching onto your throat as his body tensed. You could feel him getting close, the way his movements became a bit harsher and much less coordinated. Your nails pressed just a bit deeper, enough to make him hiss against your skin before biting down harder.
You practically choked on the sounds that came out after that. His movements were sloppy as he held your thighs, quickly slipping himself out and panting heavily as he came undone. You hummed, a deep needy sound as you tried to catch your breath.
He took a moment as well, rolling onto his back in the wet, itchy grass and watching the stars. It took a minute but he finally pushed himself up, breathing much steadier. Without a word he grabbed his shirt, using it to clean his release off of your thigh before crumpling it up and tossing it back to the ground.
You were still not fully down from your adrenaline high, but you did your best to nod. After a pause you sat up weakly, looking him over in the dim lighting and offering a small huff. He frowned, rubbing your thighs softly.
“Didn't hurt ya, did I?” His voice was gruff, but you could feel the worry and genuine care radiating off of him. You smiled at that, running your hand down his back and watching him wince.
“Mmm, it was a bit much at the end, but I kinda liked it.” You got quiet at the end like you were telling him a secret. “Besides, I think I did the real damage.”
He didn't argue, because fuck yeah, you did do some damage to his back. The intensity of the moment kept him from feeling it, but after winding down? It hurt like a bitch.
“God, yeah.. did you fucking stab me?” It was playful, but you didn't miss the way he cautiously tried to feel his back with a gentle touch.
You both watched each other in content silence for what felt like ages to you but was probably only a few seconds. Until something was brought back to the forefront your mind, now that it was functioning again.
“You mean what you said? ‘Bout not wanting me to keep going with Denny?” He stiffened visibly, running his fingers through his hair and not fully meeting your eyes. After a second he sighed, shaking his head.
“Not exactly.. I do hate seeing it, but you ain't gotta stop. I get why ya do it.” He mumbled, tensing slightly as you scooted a bit closer to him, tucking yourself under his arm and against his side.
“You seemed pretty.. intense about it.” You pointed out, voice gentle. Like you had to reassure him he wasn't in trouble for just feeling like this.
“Yeah, I mean I love your dumbass.. And sometimes I worry he's just easier to see and that-” Your hand flew to his mouth, catching him off guard as he felt your fingers cover his lips.
“Shut your pretty mouth, Chambers.” You didn't allow him any time to finish that stupid thought. “Denny Lachance is a fucking drag. He’s so straight edge and boring I could literally cry thinking about it..” He watched you, shoulders hunched slightly and your hand still covering his mouth as you continued.
“My parents like that shit, but I can't stand it and I don't want you even thinking that I give enough of a shit about what my parents think to pick the easier option. Because the easier option fucking sucks. And..” your chest heaved, and you felt yourself getting more hot-headed as you thought.
You never thought he would worry about something of that nature. “And if he makes you think like that, then he's gone. Easy.” You waited a moment, wanting your words to fully sink in before you uncovered his mouth.
Hesitantly you pulled back, watching him with careful eyes. He seemed a bit stunned, eyes flicking between your face and the ground like he desperately wanted to believe you but couldn't. He sighed.
“You don't have to do that for me” he challenged, seeming almost reluctant to accept your words.
“I want to do it for you. For me too. It's not exactly fun on my end you know” He bit his bottom lip, pulling it into his mouth. It was like he was being offered everything he ever wanted, but he didn't know how to react now that it was real.
“Your parents will flip… It'd be harder for me to see you.” he reminded, almost like he was trying to talk to you out of it. Like he desperately needed to hear you reassert your plan to feel ok.
“I'll sneak out and if they lock me in..” you paused, watching his reaction carefully. “If there's a spot for me with you, I'll leave completely.” It was a big thing to talk about, and it was a conversation that rarely came up. You talked about moving in together frequently, but the idea of you leaving your parents and crashing in his room was a plan that got talked about far less.
“If you can put up with my family, I doubt they'd care if you showed up,” he admitted, scratching at the back of his neck. You nodded your head once, ready to drop everything just to make him believe that you were his.
And because you wanted the world to know he was yours.

Ahh I really really want Eyeball Chambers. Hes just got such a fuckin pretty face and hes such a dick :( Um, yeah, as always make requests if you want because sometimes I run out of ideas. I've thought about writing some Long Walk stuff since I saw the movie a few times since it came out, but idk. I dont always like writing non canon compliant stuff so limited possibilities for that. Barkovitch is cute ig (I have many mixed feelings) but Stebbins and McVries are just 🥰 Though I dont think McVries woud fit into my blogs theme since he's such a good guy in the movie lol. I could do book McVries maybe, but I also have too many mixed feelings about him. Stebbins could maybe fit.
Did yall like The Long Walk? I loved it, and the changes from the book didnt even bother me for the most part. The rabbit speech still got to me lol. I will say a lot of the dialogue being direct quotes from the book was super cool, but my favorite quote from the book they changed by like one word so that was like probably my only pet peeve. I'm already planning to get a tattoo though. I'm probably going to get 23 and 47 together somewhere with a quote from the book.
The acting was so good though and I swear the last 30-40 minutes just make me sob every time.
Ill shut up about it now lol
