I don't think enough people acknowledge just how much of a stab in the back the Eyewitness parallel in the S3 rain fight really is

i’ve been trying to understand “it’s not my fault you don’t like girls” since i first saw that scene because WHAT??? i think i finally got it tho. walk with me 🙂‍↕️

since mike is clearly projecting, i feel like he’s saying “it’s not my fault you can’t fake it like i can” because mike is really trying and he’s able to pretend while will is not.

this really puts the eyewitness parallel into perspective because lukas was able to be in a relationship with rose and ignore the trauma of the cabin murders, while philip wanted to tell the truth even if that meant outing himself as gay. will saying “you’re destroying everything and for what, so you can swap spit with some stupid girl” fits with what philip is saying about tommy being in danger because they didn’t tell the cops what happened. “i don’t want anything to happen to him because we didn’t say anything.” like lukas is LITERALLY destroying everything (tommy’s life/safety) by not telling the truth that him and philip were at the cabin together. he just hides in his relationship and wants philip to ignore the severity of what happened to them. mike does the same thing, he hides in his relationship with el and tries to be normal despite all of the lingering trauma from s1/s2. and he’s so deep in it that he’s not spending time with his friends and he’s “destroying everything.” aka the party, and mike and will’s relationship.

this won’t make sense if you haven’t seen eyewitness, but i think about this parallel all the time and why the duffers chose to parallel that scene specifically. ALSO the byler slides and some other posts have said that in the eyewitness garage scene, lukas says “im not gay like you” but that’s actually a totally different scene and while its basically what mike is saying to will in the rain scene i don’t think that was the intended parallel.

Question to my fellow bylers. I tried looking this up briefly, but when/where do the Duffer Brothers mention that the TV Show “eyewitness” was one of their many inspirations? I love the whole concept of the eyewitness parallels, but I can’t seem to find the source for it. Please let me know in the comments, thanks!

duffer brothers were insane for this because not only are the scenes paralleled, they literally MATCH UP😭 like it wasn't just an inspo, nah nah THEY MADE SUREEEEE it matched
