During a weather topic we made these fantastic shaving foam rain clouds. - shaving foam - jam jar/ clear container - water - food dye and pipette Easy!! Fill jar with water, add shaving foam on top, squeeze in droplets of different coloured dyes. Sit back and watch the colourful rain drift through the clouds. Easy to do and strangely therapeutic!!!!

Holi-yay or nay?

We have leapt the final hurdle and bound over the finish line… the holidays are here. Summer, sun, time to relax and unwind. Apart from the incessant digs from all non-teaching friends, the holidays bring nothing but enjoyment… or so we hope.

I count down like every other exhausted teacher and get butterflies on the last day. I welcome the first day of freedom with open arms but after the novelty has worn off, I look around and can’t help to feel alone. I am not one of those people who surrounds themselves with purely school working peers. Apart from a close few, my friend work nine to five, five days a week with gold dust holiday days that aren’t used willingly. This leaves me cleaning things that don’t need to be cleaned, reading books I’ve already read and watching re-runs on television. Yes, I could jump in the car, take myself shopping or spend the afternoon on the beach but there’s only so many solo trips you can make before feeling a bit of an odd ball.

Soon enough, for me, the holidays start to feel a little overwhelming. Finding new ways to fill each day so that I’m not waiting in anticipation for the other half to come home is hard. I try endlessly to pack my schedule by visiting family members, squeezing coffees from friends who can and eking out household jobs to keep me busy but it leaves me thinking…. am I the only one who feels this way or have I got it all wrong? Am I missing something? Do I need help knowing how to holiday or do others find them as daunting as I do.

So…. I’m going to kick off this break with the right frame of mind. I endeavour to enjoy myself and even relish being alone. A new role awaits in September and I want to make sure I use my break to unwind, recharge and take care of myself and hopefully the rest will fall into place… watch this space.
