It had been a particularly rough night with John Seed. Despite atoning, despite doing as was requested of him he was still being punished for the sins that he couldn’t seem to ‘rid himself of’. Alex was beyond the point of truly caring, but he only wished he could stop feeling pain as easily as he did concern about his own wellbeing.
The weather is starting to get cooler, which means long sleeves that stay cuffed at his wrists and cover the bandages that wind up his forearms beneath them. He follows in John’s footsteps as they make their way into the church, with him being ushered in first and told to take a seat near the middle. He’s about to, but is stopped by a gentle touch to his shoulder. Alex stiffens, bites back the flinch of pain because there’s a medley of blue and black just beneath their touch. When he looks aside, he sees that it’s Hannah and she’s leading him to the back of the church, and then even further, pulling him aside into a room that’s lit by more candles than he can count and the sunlight beams from a skylight above.
She gives him a knowing look and dips her head, an unspoken command as he then unbuttons his shirt and slides it off his shoulders, letting it hang over his forearms in front of his stomach. Hannah’s brows pinch and she takes in a deep breath, as though steadying herself before she takes out a medkit from a cupboard. This time she takes him by the arm, a spot where there’s no markings and guides him to sit down in a chair. When Joseph’s voice cuts through the silence he turns his head, worried about missing it, but she directs his chin back towards her, and shakes her head.
He hopes John doesn’t find out.
