What I've Wanted To Say

(a poem that I was NEVER going to post except ezra's sad too and I think she might be able to get something out of this)

It overtakes me when I’m not even thinking When I’m singing and smiling And finally relaxing, Allowing myself a moment

I remember that there are things to do And things I can’t do And things I shouldn’t do But do anyway

I remember that I’m responsible For so many things And even some people And actions

I remember that I can’t do this, Take time to think Or talk and rest Or feel okay

Because I have things to do And people to report to Not to mention work to finish Or it might mean my life

That’s what they make it out to mean, anyway.

And when it comes to me, I don’t know what to do with it So I throw it away in tears And screams directed at bystanders And cold silence

Never have I so desired quiet And stillness of surroundings Softness and warmness Something called “comfort”

The closest things I have now I cling to, Reserved time for love Carefully planned allowance of sleep Moments where I’m unexpectedly freed

The scariest part is that I’m beginning To find pseudo-comfort in sobs And reassurance in offhand comments And wholeness in loneliness

I’m forcibly molding my world To fit the walls I’m hurriedly building And anything that doesn’t fit Is marked as unnecessary

When all I want is the unnecessary The trivial and frivolous It hurts to deprive myself To try so hard at something I don’t care for

Worse is my own scorn for myself, When I berate and beat myself For not doing what I “should” be And instead doing what I want
