He shrugs off his armour, and for the first time in a long time, you see him.

Against the moonless, starless night, he shrugs off his armour, and for the first time in a long time, you see him. Under the sensual glow of the firelight, he hums an opalescence that leaves you a little breathless, a little terrified.

“It’s grotesque, I know,” he reassures, more to himself than to you, but you, emboldened by the prismatic flickering of his snakeskin, lean forward. He holds a breath when you reach out, when you press your hand to his chest, to his heart.

Swallowing, watching, he stills when your fingers draw the edges of his scales, brows creased in effort to figure out where it starts and ends, and where he begins. He allows your touch to linger, to traverse, to be curious, and when you glance at him, he eyes you in wonder, in fascination, in awe.

In the loud, questioning silence he doesn’t dare break, you reach up to the nape of his neck, and pull him down to press your lips against his. He eases into you, earnest, gentle, his hands coming up to cup your face, to run down the sides of your arms, to rest upon your thigh, roaming across goose-fleshed skin as he deepens the entwinement, leans in closer.

You pull apart with wispy breaths, lightheaded, the taste of snake-vine an odd lasting bitterness. “It’s not,” is your answer, and you, transfixed by the golden ebb of his stare, guide his hand to your lips and thumb a kiss into his palm, watch him waver, watch him tremble. He exhales, so vulnerable, so bare, so raw, so close to a breaking point you’ve never witnessed.

He apologises, then, simple, straightforward, but it’s weighed down by all the unspoken vices that he doesn’t elaborate on. In response, you weave your fingers into his hair, you let his marks drape your body, you hold him closer to your heart, unbearably warm as he murmurs your name in prayer, and he knows, then, you’ve forgiven him.

Against the moonless, starless night, you meet him again for the first time in a long time.

Sasuke looked at the clock. Then at the door. Then... back at the clock.

It was seven minutes past six.

He frowned. Itachi should have been here by now. But he was seven minutes late and, more importantly, not here. What had happened? Why was he late? Had someone decided to take out their misplaced anger on him? Accosted him in the street? Had some enemy attacked him? The possibilities were endless.

Eight minutes.

Nine minutes.

Ten.

If Itachi had a propensity for being late, maybe this would have been fine. But he wasn't. He always made it home either early or on time. Now he was ten minutes late? Something had to be wrong.

Sasuke yanked open the door, but immediately went to the roof. After casting a quick glance around and not seeing a brother quickly making his way home, his hands formed quick signs and he summoned Garuda. Let the hawk search for him from the sky while Sasuke searched from the ground.

Jumping down, Sasuke activated his Sharingan and scanned the crowds and homes he passed by as he ran through the village. He would not stop until Itachi was found.
