interesting developments. the graph suggests that george and yuki could be teammates as early as 2028 if this downward trajectory continues.
The Formula 1 Career of George Russell: A Visualization
2 Teams. 128 Career Races. 711 Career Points. 8 Fastest Laps.
George's Russell's entire Formula 1 career thus far is summarized and displayed visually in these two infographics. Exploring data visualization design through the extensive and detailed data provided by Formula 1 on their website, I was able to compare the difference between more formal and statistical design against creative and symbolic design options.
(Note: The infographic on the left was my final assignment submission and thus the information ended just after the Vegas GP 2024 weekend because of where the due date fell in the F1 calendar.)
last season i did an excel sheet keeping track of the data for the season. now we've reached a somewhat mid point of the season here is 2025 so far:
the fight for world driver championship is close whereas the constructor McLaren are 215 points ahead
ferrari might have a bad strategy but at least their pit stops are the quickest this season (8 so far)
max has won 3 driver of the days. this year the votes are definitely more spread out
oscar and lando both have 4 fastest laps which makes sense seeming as they have the fastest car on the grid this season
liam and kimi both have the most DNFs in a race (4 each)
australia still has the most DNFs in a race. the UK almost beat it
japan and belgium are the only races not to have any DNFs so far
Sprints don't really have DNFs but i did them separately so the race DNFs weren't skewed
miami has the most DNFs at 3 and then belgium had 1 DNF
meaning china had no DNFs in the sprint
4 different drivers had a DNF in the sprint
max has outqualified his teammates the most (17/17 times)
oscar has outqualified lando 11 times (lando has outqualified oscar 6 times
gabriel has outqualfied nico 10 times (the most out of the rookies)
i have been making notes of the penalties (a new addition to the excel sheet this year) i just haven't figured out how to show it just yet which is why it isn't on pics yet
im open to any questions or ideas :)
F1 WDC Predictions
I’ve finished all my work for today and I’ve found myself calculating some potential championship outcomes based on the races to date.
I did 3 different analyses based on the season as a whole, the most recent 9 races and the most recent 5 races.
Looking at the season as a whole this is the predicted outcome of the drivers championship
Verstappen (424 points)
Norris (352 points)
Leclerc (332 points)
Piastri (319 points)
Sainz (242 points)
Hamilton (236 points)
Russell (192 points)
Perez (171 points)
Based on the results on the last 9 races, things are a little different
Verstappen (414 points)
Norris (367 points)
Piastri (350 points)
Leclerc (330 points)
Hamilton (286 points)
Sainz (247 points)
Russell (226 points)
Perez (171 points)
Then finally the predictions based on the last 5 races
Verstappen (381 points)
Piastri (363 points)
Leclerc (335 points)
Norris (334 points)
Sainz (230 points)
Hamilton (222 points)
Russell (180 points)
Perez (173 points)
All three predict more race wins for Piastri, Norris, Leclerc and Hamilton, with 2/3 predicting a Verstappen race win within the next 7 races and 1/3 predicting a Russell race win.
What Tracks Inspire The Most Special Helmets and Liveries
I got curious after Japan and how many special helmets and liveries there were and now with Miami being the same I went and charted how many special helmets and liveries were completed at each track because some oddly seem to really get people going.
I noted if there was a reason for the special helmet and I only gave drivers and teams one official home race but will note if they indicate that’s why they had a special helmet.
So far Lando, Charles, Alex and Jack are tied at 3 (not counting Lando’s inverted night race helmet).
Japan had the most with 9 and only 4 having some kind of reason given. But Miami isn’t over yet!
Miami has 4 special liveries so far (I’m counting Mercedes cause I’m assuming they’ll have one?)
Interestingly enough a special livery only has a matching special helmet (and I mean the helmet is supposed to be cohesive with the livery) about half the time. I thought it would be way closer to 100%.
I’m going to keep at it the rest of the season and I guess we’ll see what’s the most popular! I’m also going to do 2023 and 2024 as control years next. But this is 2025 so far.
there was a great poll / data viz once about the number of fics in like every possible pairing of f1… and i can no longer find it. does anyone know what i’m talking about??
edit: FOUND thank you @liamlawsonlesbian for the pointer and @pierregasiy for pulling the original together. we have our differences on f1blr sometimes but united in brainrot <3333
