i feel like someone needs to address the sheer absurdity that the new rules set in place by Ben Sulayem are.
i find it very ridiculous to insert a whole rule that would allow the governing body of the FIA to deduct championship points for a driver for… swearing.
let’s say i can understand to a very minimal certain degree that they’re high-performance athletes and public figures and they’re held at a certain standards. let’s say i can understand that point of view (i really don’t, in reality).
but we have to remember that even though they’re athletes, they’re human.
they are under tremendous pressure because this is a very dangerous sport and even the smallest mistake can cost any driver dearly by causing a serious accident. also, let’s not forget about the adrenaline that is coursing through their bodies from the moment they get into the car, and especially when they get out at the end of a race.
they’re under adrenaline, they’re still feeling the exuberant excitement of driving their F1 car. it’s normal that they feel things 100 times more intensely.
swearing is a normal reflex of the human mind and it is a normal phenomenon, at the end of the day. it’s absolutely normal and natural that if something had gone wrong in the race with another driver and someone was feeling angry or frustrated, of course they’re gonna swear. i mean, wouldn’t you?
i swear that Ben Sulayem is trying to assert control over everything the drivers are allowed to do and, now, even say.
this is getting absolutely ridiculous and i can’t believe we have come to this. out of all the loopholes and all the rules that NEED TO make their way into the regulations, rules that would ensure the safety of the drivers and constrict what they’re allowed to do in the race and everything, nah, we’re focusing on them swearing.
come on, now. let’s be real.
