Horrible, life endangering accidents happen.
Sometimes, under unthinkable circumstances - people die in motorsport. Drivers, spectators, marshals, photographers and team members; it happens.
Every level of motorsport poses some danger and we've done our best to quell and eliminate this; but alas that is not entirely possible.
It shouldn't happen and it's horrific when it does. But sometimes the gap closes and the hunger's still there and there's nothing to do but watch it unfold.
What happened at Daytona shouldn't condemn a branch of motorsport, because god forbid we sort through F1's sordid past- it's something that shouldn't happen - but did.
It's something to learn from, it's something to influence the future of not only NASCAR and Indycar, but nearly all branches of the motorsport fraternity.
So accept that accidents happen; and being complacent that our current safety restrictions are the be all and end all of life saving when it comes to racing, is a dangerous thing.
Accidents happen and we do our best to make sure they aren't repeated.
