S5 writers are cowards, i think you should replace them. how would you have ended the arc of shooter bullying Franck?
(And please feel free to share any of your headcanons ^ ^ )
I personally think it was badly handled from beginning to end because, clearly, they didn't know what to do with Franck. In s4 his story was "gasp i can't tell my dad i'm playing football" and now in s5 it's "gasp i can't tell my coach i'm playing street football" so like heh, you know
Now I haven't finished rewatching s4 so i may not get Shooter's character well but the memory I had of him was the "mean but with a social pull" kid. Not exactly popular but still in his own vortex that makes him untouchable. I've known peeps like that in high school: they're insufferable to quiet kids (me lol), the adults are pulling hair trying to figure out what to do with them, but they have an incomparable social pull. And I learned 10 years later from former friends of said kid that the change from enthusiastic kind kid to overall asshole was due to *drumroll to fake surprise* parental neglect and abuse (kid wanted to go to vocational school and parents said nuh huh you'll be a lawyer like us and the kid said fuck this shit i'm out and decided to do fuckall at school except annoy teachers <- oversimplification but you get it)
Now back to Shooter.
Shooter is a stay-in at the Institute - hell, he's even staying through the summer holidays, which no one normally does because school's out. Closed. Nada. Tag would stay because he has no parents. That gives you an idea of Shooter's family life.
Shooter also doesn't care about being thrown out of the Institute because then he'd just be sent to another and there's no difference for him. Again, gives you an idea of his life otherwise.
And to finish things off, when Arnold suspended him for an entire week, Shooter had nowhere to go. He had to stay at Djam's for fuck's sake.
Now back to Franck's storyline
Again, it's a rehash of his s4 story. Boring and lazy.
On top of that, s4 was already chock-full of bullying. Sure now they've added the blackmail element but still. Sigh.
Anyway, back to your question:
If they had to keep the blackmail storyline, here's how I would have gone about it:
put hints in every episodes about what's going on, not just in Franck focused episodes. Let us see Shooter in the background receiving something from Franck. Have just a scene of Shooter crossing paths with the Bleus and give them a smirk with a mocking "Bonjour Franck" and Franck freezing for half a second. Give us scenes in the restaurant of Franck's parents finding stock missing. Or Franck placing his own money in the caisse. His fear at being caught. Nightmares beyond that last fucky episode. Franck appearing tired or fearful at all times, instead of relying on the dumb phone thing they've been going at since s4
show us more of Shooter. His friendship with Djam and Alpha, the glaring absence of his parents, his reaction to being suspended, reaction to being asked to vacate the Institute to give place to the World Cup players, his anger at everything that isn't Djam (because for real he pushed straws on everyone but Djam. Best ride or die boy Djam, I love you, you little shit)
Just like with Victoire, we gotta see where he's coming from. It sure as hell wouldn't excuse his behavior, just like it didn't excuse Vic's, but it would have made him more fleshed out, an actual kid in need of help.
GIVE FRANCK ACTUAL SCREEN TIME IN EVERY EPISODE!!!!!! Even if to show he's completely out of it. ESPECIALLY for that
the thing about bullying is that it's constant!! That's why it's such a cancer on the victim's life. Forgetting that is missing the point of a bullying storyline
WHY is Shooter so anti-social is vital to his character okay. The lack of control on anything else is the easy answer but also a compelling answer if you show us!!!!!!! "he wants snacks" would lead him to steal (and would have made a great addition to his character lemme just say), "he wants a power trip" is standard bully behavior, but for a character you gotta show us why. Why would he be obsessed with being in control and having power over something or someone? Hell, even if it's just "hmm i can't stand Franck" you'd need to give a reason (even one as stupid as the bully romance trope) such as for example, i don't know, he gets along with his parents and his parents allow him to follow his dreams and i am so jealous i have to prove my superiority on him in one (1) aspect
So that was for the season run. Now how to end it:
NOT OFFSCREEN AND NOT SO EASILY, FOR FUCK'S SAKE
And also not Franck on his own, deciding one day that sure alright i'll put a stop to it today because why not
-> I would have involved Alpha
Alpha was Shooter's friend. Sure they grew apart because Shooter was an asshole about Alpha joining the Bleus, but they've got history.
Alpha got Franck to admit certain things because Djam revealing some info and Alpha connecting the dots pretty fast (I don't think Djam knows about the bullying, he sure as hell doesn't look like it)
knowing how defensive he gets of the people he holds dear (cf the SPEED at which he turned on Shooter the second he made Aïssa frown) he would NOT have let it slide, especially as a former friend.
We should have gotten a real deep confrontation between Alpha and Shooter, with Shooter airing all the dirty laundry and exploding all his pent up anger at Alpha and the world
It could have ended as a definite break of friendship if Shooter doubles down OR as the start of something new, like Alpha being honest with him, saying he's happier now that he focuses on fun and not his own rage and misery, stuff like that, and the start of a redeeming arc for Shooter, even just the hint of it
-> I would have involved Bianca
Bianca knew all along. If Kani is the cement of the team, Bianca is its heart. That's why she got involved with the coach and solved that problem. Well, she should have gotten involved with Shooter as well
It's also established in the first episode of the 4th season that she's dead scared of Shooter, so it would have shown growth on her part as well
I don't picture a head-on confrontation but rather telling the adults, also tying with her own arc of trusting her mom (and therefore I would have put it after the running away episode)
Telling Mme Wong first, then M. Arnold, and even the coach while she was at it. and Franck's parents
-> measures against Shooter
I didn't expect any considering the shit ending Steven got in s4 (my poor baby)
but still !!!!
The adults should react. Punishment that's not suspension and letting him live on the streets (WHAT THE FUCK SERIOUSLY EVEN FRANCK KNEW SHOOTER DIDN'T HAVE ANYWHERE TO GO SO HOW DIDN'T ARNOLD I'M STILL FUCKING LIVID)
something like calling his parents (!!!!!!!!! new Shooter episode unlocked following that), making him write a self-reflection letter, making him go to therapy, having a deep discussion with him, making him apologize to Franck
TMI but in middle school I was bullied. I was socially stupid so I didn't even notice and genuinely considered them my friends (can I get a yeehaw). It got discovered when I was sick at home. One of them sent me a text with insults in it. I didn't have my phone with me and my mom saw the screen light up with it and went ballistic. I was like "naaaah they're kidding dw they're fine, we're friends ^^). What she did? call the kid's mom. The mom and took her kid to my home with chocolate she had made them buy with their own fucking money to give me an apology. Didn't stop it all, but that one kid did never bother with me again and just ignored me (which huh. was worse to me btw 👍 socially inept, as I was saying)
Final answer
Shooter should have had to make it up to both Franck and the parents restaurant. And get redeemed through it, like finding a real passion for cooking or some shit. There, satisfying ending for his narrative
I hope if they do a season 6 of street football (which I don't really wish ), they give to Franck how a bullied person deal when they aren't bullied anymore : like having frequent anxiety, awful memories that comes back etc...
I know this is stupid to say this for a kid show especially for the new gen of Blues now but I wish they could a least put this topic it could be important that a bullied person isn't going to heal instantly after bullying but it takes very long time to heal..
Was bored

they really completely ditched the "franck doesn't understand figurative figures of speech" thing in s5 huh i had forgotten about it but man did he not get shit in s4 :v
