Facebook Announces Tinder-Like Dating Feature
Facebook has reportedly launched a new feature that is a dating profile matching users with other users in a similar way to the successful dating app Tinder. The CEO of Facebook will launch a new feature on its app later this year. Zuckerberg spoke about the company`s professional plans regarding the new feature at the annual F8 conference that was held in San Jose on May 1, as Time reports. It is interesting to note that the Facebook dating feature is being announced by Zuckerberg at a time when Facebook is having problems with the Cambridge Analytica scandal. So, why Facebook is launching a new feature when its users are concerned and even angry about the use of their personal data? It is unclear whether this is an effort to improve the situation that is threatening Facebook`s reputation, especially in light of campaigns like the #DeleteFacebook one on rivaling social media platform Twitter. At the same time, the media worldwide has shed light on Zuckerberg's hearings in front of the USA`s Congress, giving rise to controversial comments from users of the social network. Speaking of the new dating feature, Zuckerberg has told Time that the company has designed it with privacy and safety in mind from the beginning. However, how is this app actually working? It is going to create a dating profile for the users who are interested in it. The dating profile will be a different one and not the normal Facebook profile and the user`s friends will not see it, according to the company that spoke about it in a statement giving an overview of Facebook`s new features. The potential matches will be recommended based on dating preferences, things in common, and mutual friends, as the announcement adds. It seems like Facebook is trying to compete with successful applications in the field of dating like Tinder, among others. When launched, the new app can show whether they have something different than the competition. Looking at the other Facebook features, it is perhaps necessary to mention the Groups tab that helps user navigate to existing groups more easily, the Crisis Response tab, where people can get information about recent crises and access Safety Check, Community Help and Fundraisers and the Blood Donations on Facebook that is available in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan for registration of blood donors on Facebook. On a final note, it was emphasized that the company took a number of steps to protect people`s information on Facebook and introducing improvements to their policies and programs. When it comes to Instagram, Facebook writes that they are rolling out AR Camera Effects for Instagram, as well as a Video Chat that will be available in Instagram Direct and is claimed to aim to empower one-on-one and group conversations. Finally, Instagram may soon a redesigned Explore to make it easier to discover things users are interested in. As you may know, What`s App is another app that is belonging to Facebook. Other improvements and new features are described by Facebook here. Let`s see how this is changing the world of messaging and whether users will respond positively to the way Facebook handles the recent scandal and continues to manage its products.
