Kendra and Seth shared a very special look.

With a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth, Kendra folded up the letter, slipped it into her pocket, and walked out the front door, marveling at how fine a line divided dreading the future from looking forward to it.

“The Society has abducted your parents.”

And she meant it.

Then, in the distance, faint enough that it might have come from his imagination, Seth thought he heard a dragon roar.

“Seth, my brother, we are going to make beautiful music together.”

“I think you can expect the royal treatment.”

With two quick strokes, bars clattered to the floor, and Seth had a way out of his cell.

Kendra leaned forward, shining brighter until she lit up the yard.
