A ready resource for Philadelphia designers, Fabric Row has been a textile hub for over a century. While not the bustling place it was before so much of the garment industry moved overseas, the five-block strip on 4th Street is still a hot spot for all things textile-related. Fabric shops, upholstery studios, tailors, seamstresses, and retailers of locally made clothing and accessories – it’s all on Fabric Row.

45 blocks? That's not that bad...
So today we had a girl's day (with the kids) and went in search of Karlin's. We rode out on the subway. Then hit up Ross, where I got a sweet little dress. Then went to the fabric store, where I got buttons and elastic). But then we decided we wanted to go to Fabric Row. Karlin's was nice, but it was kind of small. Definitely not a SAS. (oooh how I miss SAS) But we thought we might need to get the boys a snack first so we set off to Reading Terminal Market. Then we had to go to WHole Foods, because I needed to find some almond butter, and granola supplies. Then we headed over to Fabric Row. On the way back we found a nice little consignment shop. Then we had buyer's remorse, sort of, and decided to walk the rest of the way home. Only about 50 blocks away, no big deal. But then we found another thrift/ vintage store. So I officially have found the two stores I will be shopping at, when I get to go. Afterwards, and still on the way home, we needed to find a bathroom for the boys, and it just so happened to be at the playground so we let them run wild for a bit.
By the time we got to the bridge it started to rain sideways. But we powered through.
Then Michelle was tired from carrying the littlest one (plus it was raining) and she strapped her to little Oliver's lap and covered them with up. It was smart.
But Mads didn't want the cover. It lasted for a while too. About 15- 20 blocks, but it appeared as though Oliver's legs were turning colors so she had to carry her in the sling again.
We made it home, though. After we went to the grocery store and the food truck. But then I had Mutual and I had to run down to the chapel. All in all I ended up walking about 7.5 miles. It felt like more, so I was a bit disappointed when I tallied the mileage. But it was still good. In fact we plan to walk there and back one day.

Today we went in search of fabric row. It was such a nice day. First we got to ride the subway for the first time (at least for Bubba and me). At first Bubba was scared but then he got more excited as the saw the letters, etc. (advertisements and what not) on the walls on the subway tunnels.
We got off on the 5th street station and then walked to Fourth Street. It was soooo beautiful. There were so many trees and beautiful houses. There were a few historic buildings that we passed, we didn't stop but they were beautiful.
Here's one of the info plaques from one of the houses. (I don't know, maybe you think it's neat. I do.)
On the way there we found a candy store. WE got sooo excited about it because it said it had dried fruit and nuts. Well needless to say we accidentally spent twenty bucks! Totally wasn't worth it. BUt I am glad I got the the chocolate covered craisins and chocolate covered banana chips. BUt I think I may try to find a way to do it myself. It was still fun though.
Then finally, after passing a million cute houses that I would love to live in we made it to Fabric Row...
It was great there were so many fabric shops. I found a place that had about 30 colors of 100% linen fabric and I cannot wait until we have some more money so I can buy them all! We didn't buy anything though, because I was just looking for stores/ fabrics for Em's dress. Then we hit up Whole Foods so I could by the vegan sausage I love so much. And we walked down South Street a bit. Then we headed back home and hit up Saad'a Halal and I got the Chicken Shish Tawook sandwich and he got the Chicken Falafel sandwich, and then we each got some baklava (I got walnut and he got chocolate). It was beyond delicious. Neto decided he loved his chicken falafel more than Philly cheese steaks. It was a lovely day of new things. And I love Philly.
