Vintage print ad found in the August 1974 issue of Philadelphia Magazine.
That illustration đ
This vintage print advertisement for the now-defunct Philly regional chain, Maternity Mart, features a vintage illustration of a pregnant woman in their $60 print pajamas. According to usinflationcalculator.com, these pajamas would run you $351.86 today!
In 2022, I took a picture of this ad I stumbled upon in an August 1974 issue of Philadelphia Magazine because I liked the illustration. I didnât know what âMaternity Martâ was, but the name stuck with me for some reason.
Today, in 2025, I was scrolling Facebook when I saw a post titled â18th & Sansom, circa 1992.â What caught my attention right away was âMaternity Martâ painted on the side of the building, and instantly I thought back to that ad from years earlier.
I love how these moments connect across time: an ad placed in 1974, a photo of the corner in 1992âthe year I was bornâme noticing the ad in 2022, and then, years later, stumbling across the photo in 2025.
