Face Constructions
Okay you said I could ask for art advice so here I am! 1) Usually, how do you "construct" a face? Like the guidelines & all... but mostly I struggle with "shaping" the face & the features. 2) Do you have any tips on drawing hair? I really can't draw it at all unless I have a very clear reference I do kinda okay when I'm drawing from reference, but from imagination I struggle a lot to shape the face and I just can't draw the hair at all...
Hi! Hope you don’t mind me making your ask public. I’ll try my best to be helpful, but my process is kinda a mess?
I always work with guidelines, especially for the face. Usually I get started with a circle for the shape of the head, then a cross for the eyes and the middle of the face (the cross is always curved, never straight lines), from there I build the shape of the jaw and chin, then the rest of the face. Here’s a quick gif :
As you see it’s not very precise, and when drawing digitally, I flip the drawing and use the transform tool a lot. For me, the lines are more of a very rough starting point than actual guidelines for the face, BUT that’s because for a loooonnng time, I used more precised guidelines and followed them. I tried to do a sketch to show good construction lines but it was so messy… I recommend just googling “face construction guidelines” or something similar, there’s plenty of good examples. The two guidelines I always try to keep in mind are : the space between two eyes is one eye, and the ear is between the brow and the tip of the nose.
As for ‘shaping’ the face, i’m not sure what you mean by that? Do you mean the construction or making a unique face? If that’s it, I can share my process to try to avoid ‘same face syndrom’ and give each character I draw a specific look.
Basically, what I do is, I focus on their personalities and history to determine the kind of shape that will fit them the best. Depending on the character, I’ll go with a different shape and a different type of line. I might use long, smooth, curved strokes, or a lot of small, sharp lines. Once you have your construction lines done, you can play with the shape and feature until you have what you want.
My advice to learn how to draw different feature is to use reference pictures. A good resource for that is @humanae. Even if you don’t wanna draw realism, it’ll help you with the anatomy, and you can work on adapting the face to your style.
TBH, for me, same face syndrom is a thing that I’ve never completely got rid off (I mean, just look at the examples above. I’m cringing at how alike they all still are). Once you have a more defined personal style, you’ll always have characters that look a bit like each other, and a type of face that’s easier to draw, but where’s the fun in always drawing the same thing?
Now for hair, my advice is the same as above : use reference. Build your mental hair library, so that at some point you won’t have to look at references to draw different type of hair. Something you can do too is : draw the hairline in your construction lines. This will give you somewhere to start from and might make it easier to draw a variety of hair styles! There’s different shapes of hairlines, just look at portraits and try to see them, then draw them!
Also keep in mind that hair are 1) subject to gravity 2) light so they move with movement, wind etc. When drawing the hair, think about the setting of your drawing, the position of the character, and what other elements might influence the shape of the hair.
OK so I don’t think I’ve got anything else to add! I’m not very good at explaining my process and giving good advice, but I hope this was a bit helpful! Despite studying art at school for years, I’ve got a lot of bad habits from before then, and I’m generally lazy so I often work with the mindset of “fake it til you make it”. But the best advice to improve is always the same : practice, use references, draw from life, practice more!
Thanks for the ask, again i hope my reply was helpful! Have fun drawing!!

Artist @loish ran a session about stylizing portraits, and whilst watching it she mentioned the "bean" shape that arises from rounder, "squishier" aesthetics.
I've been trying to use the bean as a foundational construction base, and it's interesting what it does as a starting point, as an alternative to the usual construction methods... Mainly, it gives a systematic "girly"-coded aesthetic which... combines strangely with facial hair 😅
I gave it another go, looking to make it more angular around the eyebrows and slimmer on the cheeks and jawline. I also add a hard shadow to the face side, to de-emphasize the roundness, as a way to remove the hamster cheeks.
It's non-cute at this point, and it's not meant to maintain that quality - it's a departure that uses the bean as a foundation.
I tried to trace the original bean after the fact, but I think I overshot to the right...
But to illustrate the point, here's an overlay of the base bean (red) and the adjustments done within its structure (blue), followed by a quick fillbof features and then the shadow.
I know it stemmed more from an observation of Big-Mouse's style of construction, but I've taken to calling this the "Loish Bean Method" in my head 😅
Varying the bean proportions gives some variety....
I'll keep on trying this to see if there are further refinements that come about...
Some face construction practice. Seems like sketching doesn't take too much out of my thumb, so there may be a lot of this stuff in the future. >_>
A Prescribe Logical analysis Near at hand the Independent Ping 30 Wood
We all knew the G25 was magnanimous - to me the G30 is the same but longer, presence better, sounds better and spins a little less. Quite a quintet. The revolutionary Ping G30 fairway woods are designed to afford increased distance, the while the G30 hybrids deliver a higher, longer swift rate. The PING G30 fairway woods are built unto maximize scene sans losing the seamanship and forgetfulness the G-series clubs have come to be known for. The new clubface diagram irruptive the Ping G30 fairways involves using a larger hope on uniform thickness constructed with Carpenter 475 ferruginous, a stronger steel than traditional uncorrupted. Still, the advancing he pured the G30 fairway, both from the tee and off the runway, would consult with the article is a real gem. The release was powerful and the sound was just never so. There's nein question the added vested right and quietus whereby offer from the G30 fairway wood warrants your attention. Faster ball speeds and greater overpass come from a larger face made of a uniform-thickness Carpenter 475 treasury stock, creating a slenderish but strong hitting extrinsically that maximizes lap deflection. Increased ball scamper is achieved through a hotter features out of doors sacrificing high launch or consistency. And that saves weight, which allows designers in passage to reposition precious grams to make clear boost the moment of neutralism and tolerance. With a new stare down construction and the addition of Turbulator Technology ball speeds are optimized, giving you more distance. Improved taking a role is up in arms petition toward a new material that allows seeing as how a very lean and uniform face relative density, which deflects more else previous designs for added ball speeds. It seems as though Ping cherish elected by acclamation that looks are important modernized this category and once you've added in superlative forgiveness levels then you are in business.
