That Bucky was DEFINITELY not like the one she was used to. His temper was different and his cold assessment of the situation reminded her more of the Winter Soldier, than Bucky Barnes. It made her tense a little, because she had no idea what kind of version she had brought here. His reality could be very different from theirs, so there was no telling whether he was even on their side or not.
“Why…well, entirely no reason, I’m afraid. It’s um…complicated”, she began to explain, running a hand through her hair. How was she going to explain all of this in short, to someone who had no idea about anything that had happened in their reality lately?
“The short version is: I died, came back and ever since then, I have issues controlling my powers when I fall asleep. The overall explanation is, that I can manipulate realities, but don’t know how to do it intentionally yet. I’ve never manifested a PERSON from another reality before. Just objects and…strange creatures from the dream realm. This here is a first.”
She nervously chewed her bottom lip, fiddling with the hem of her sweater. “So, are you…I mean, in your world….on our side?” Obviously, she could just read his mind, but it was a lot more polite to ask him. Taking the possibility into account, that he might still be affiliated with Hydra in his reality, Wanda knew that she had to be careful. But there was a certain familiarity in his gaze when he looked at her, so she dared to assume that he had met another version of her before.
“Great.” It took more self-control than expected to keep himself from snapping. Even if he had no real reason to believe her, he was beginning to doubt she dragged him here intentionally. That much seemed true, especially as her nerves seemed to get the better of her. The Scarlet Witch he knew was many, many things but he’d never heard of her playing the scared woman card before, “I’m never the first for anything good, am I?”
A rhetorical question. He already knew the answer was no and who knows what he was like in her reality. Sighing a small curse under his breath he finally looked away from her, once again trying to glean clues from the room they were in. The Brotherhood rarely stayed in one place for long, and Magneto rarely sprang for cozy living quarters for his pawns. Their surroundings seemed almost domestic in a sense, but he didn’t buy it completely.
“That depends, who’s side are you on today Ms. Maximoff?” A bit cruel, especially since this girl woman seemed to lack the same anguished edges as the woman he knew, but when Wanda went rogue everyone seemed to pay a price. His words were hypocritical, of course, but he rarely changed sides willingly as she did, “I’m still with the Avengers.”
Not officially. He was little more than Fury’s attack dog at the moment, but when they called he still answered. Bucky stood with them, even if he still stood in the shadows, “Question is, just who are you working with right now? Or is this you in hiding again?”
