And no further response from him. Every day I become closer to flipping my lid
So it was my birthday on Facebook.
“Everyone is freaking out saying that kneeling during our national anthem is disrespecting our fallen soldiers, but.... no one was fighting and dying so we would have to stand during the national anthem. They fought and died for our FREEDOM to do whatever we wanted during it. Whether we want to stand, kneel, do a headstand, grill, check our phones, whatever. The more you try to force what we ‘should’ do be doing during the national anthem, the more you are going against the very thing they were fighting for to begin with.” - Micayla Keeley 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
An old high school friend posted a link to an opinion article he’d written in support of the refugee ban. And I was waiting for Guardians of the Galaxy to load in another tab so.... I kind of wrote a response longer than his original article?? But it’s good! His argument was shitty but pretended to be based in fact so it was easy to pick apart. Also it turns out reading about something obsessively makes you pretty good at defending your opinion on it. But now I keep thinking of the lyrics from the Hamilton Mixtape version of Wrote My Way Out -> damn, you got no chill, FUCKIN RIGHT I’M RELENTLESS Because I think those words pretty much define what I’m like on Facebook.
stating facts and studies is now seen as aggressive in political discourse
so done
I accidentally got into a fight on Facebook Why! Do! I! Hate! Myself! This guy posts "Get rid of the minimum wage." And I didn't know anyone was fighting for NO WAGES?? I've heard plenty of arguments for not raising minimum wage but not for eliminating it and I was just curious! I just wanted to hear why! I didn't want to debate! All we have are opinions. Neither of us can say what would happen if x y or z were to happen. It's all hypotheticals, theory based on personal experiences rather than any concrete fact... But then he starts talking about how the "right" way to live is self-promotion and I just... AAAHHHHHHHHH For real, I would agree to communism if the government of said society had the rights checks and balances. I can't be the only one who actively does NOT want to be rich!!! Right???? I WANT A MIDDLE-CLASS LIFE MIDDLE-CLASS LIVES ALL AROUND
A guy I went to high school just asked me to give an objective argument on why I think women having access to abortion should be a right (on Facebook no less).
I’m so incredibly turned off by the conversation because he is not only mansplaining morality, etc. to me, he is also asking me to speak about abortion in a strictly objective manner. Which... is completely impossible for me, as a woman? Like, he can speak objectively because he’s a man and will never have to deal with pregnancy and it’s dangers and will never have to choose whether or not to get abortion (which, hey male privilege). I cannot speak subjectively on this because, as a woman, I need this option to be available to me (because congress likes to hinder my ability to access birth control) and also because it’s a situation that I could very well find myself in.
I just don’t understand why men feel like they can argue these things AND decide how exactly we’ll argue them (objectively vs. subjectively).
Thoughts?
Some guy just told me that spirits are "proven not to exist”. I pointed out that that isn’t actually true and he got kinda annoyed.
