Facebook will use drones to transmit WIFI ? buys Titan Aerospace for $60 million
Facebook is buying Titan Aerospace for $60 million, Titan Aerospace produces solar-powered drones which can fly for five years without needing to land.
Facebook is planning to blanket parts of the world without Internet acces. The company would start by building 11,000 of these unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), specifically the “Solara 60″ model.
These drones can ascend to 20KM above sea level where they can remain for 5 years without needing to land or refuel.
This project is to be part of the internet.org effort to bring connectivity to rural areas in developing countries. Google has a similar project called project loon which relies on balloons.
But with the recent scandals of the NSA, a question is raised.... Does the world wants to be connected?
