Everything is cold and unnatural. They can’t hear her, can’t feel her within them. They have no Queen, therefore they have no purpose.
There are three of them- two Warriors with their ridged heads and bladed tails, and one Drone, with a smooth, translucent dome and barbed tail. This place, this laboratory, is the only world they have ever known, always restrained, always tested on by the fleshy, two legged creatures that had taken them as eggs away from their Hive, studying them as weapons from the very day they burst forth from their hosts chests.
The Drone is calmer then the Warriors, who screech and flail in their metal restraints all day and night, while it simply watches the scientists...observes them as they stock up canisters of royal jelly, taken straight from the Queen and containing all of her pheromones and scents. Their existence changes on that day.
The alarms blare red and the humans are panicking, the smell of their fear thick in the air, exciting them. The power goes out shortly after, encasing the lab in darkness, unlocking all the doors...and undoing the automatic restraints, freeing them for the first time since their birth. At first their actions are simply mindless killings, leaving the bodies as they have no command to feed or bring new hosts to the Hive....then they believe they smell it...or rather, her- unaware that what they are actually smelling is the canisters of royal jelly, locking away from their senses in those compressed cells.
The trio hisses to each other, blood and drool dripping from their jaws as they excitedly climb the walls, trying to get to their Queen as fast as possible.
