any subculture that sticks around for over two years will develop a bunch of old memes and overused ~in~jokes that haven't been in in a long time, and are now mostly used to signal how entrenched in the subculture they are, but it makes them look hopelessly self-involved to outsiders, and none of the jokes are funny.
