scammers and grifters are on the rise. with the way the economy has become, i've noticed that more people in the hobby are suddenly offering faceup services. 

a number of these people have no prior experience offering faceup services, yet their prices err on the side of a seasoned faceup artist and they don't allow you to customize your options. 

do not throw caution to the wind when looking for an artist to commission. always throughly do your research and ask around BEFORE putting out any money. ALWAYS use pp g&s Prozent some equivalent that offers buyer protections. it doesn't matter how nice they seem, where money is involved it changes people. 

and always keep a record of any conversation that transpires, especially as it's happening; never trust a social platform to automatically do this for you

I legitimately just ordered a doll from oueneifs with a faceup that I drew on a picture of a naked head myself as reference: they did it EXACTLY as I asked. For 15$! You guys won't find that quality or price anywhere else!

elvdys and n0myens are both such overrated one-trick ponies... their faceups are professional looking sure, but where's the character, the person on that painted resin? Individuality? The mods are good and so are the lashes and glue, but the fus are so repetitive. It's like they function as the substitute Fairyland factory fu artists for dolls FL doesn't paint. PSP, Atelier M0moni & so on may be coarse but at least they put life on those faces instead of creating glorified Barbies.

To the people who cowardly go on anon to put down another artists face-up skills, I have this to say: I would LOVE to see you do better. And if you ARE an artist who is capable of doing face-ups... shame on you for putting down another arist, knowing how difficult it can be.

I really don't understand when face up artists are like 'don't send me photos of other dolls for reference.' As an artist it makes no sense, reference is important. I am not asking you to copy the face up, maybe I like the shape of these eyebrows and want something similar but in a different color and in your style. IRL photos of make up often don't reach the detail or style needed or just convey what I want for doll face ups.

When a customer sends me reference for character design, its often a collection of things from you know, other art? "hair like this but maybe with these adjustments and maybe these color."

It doesn't really make sense to me. Back in the day, people really didn't care. I am not asking you to copy this doll and I don't want you to? I like how the purple on this under eye in this photo, shape of lips from this other photo. But it feels like people are so scared of 'copying/being copied' they forget what 'reference' or 'inspiration' really means.

I would understand the push back if I said 'I want the flowers painted on this doll's face on mine.'

Personally I like to do my own mock ups, but if I can't I try to add photo references for things I struggle to convey. And because I am looking at a doll, a doll is my ref because I know its size and limitations. But it seems like most face up artists just wanna do 'artist choice' now anyway.

It doesn't matter if it's just a slight blush on the nose and easy to clean. It's still considered leftover faceup and I understand if artists would charge you faceup removal fees for it. They still need to use thinner or a faceup remover to clean that off, and adds more time to their prep work for the head. No matter how you look at it, you're in the wrong for not disclosing that, and it's not the faceup artist being mean or rude when they tell you, in their business, professional persona, about how it will affect their process. I dare not name who this collector is, because they're just gonna complain and excuse the action as them being just neurodivergent and not being able remember in full the artist's terms and conditions.

i despise the way some faceup artists paint lips in that bright red color. it often isn't to interpret lipstick, but a natural lip color and instead always winds up looking like the doll just finished eating a bag of flamin hot cheetos
