Half the stuff we grew up calling “old people superstitions” wasn’t superstition at all.
🗣️That was Hoodoo. Hidden. Protected. Preserved.
Our people wasn’t dumb… they was strategic.
You really think a whole group of people survived slavery, spiritual warfare, displacement, forced religion, AND still came out with power…
…by accident?
Nah.
They hid it.
They coded it.
They passed it down in ways that wouldn’t get them killed.
So now you calling it “don’t do that, that’s bad luck”…
and your grandma was really teaching you a spiritual law.
Let’s talk about it 👇🏾
Don’t sweep over nobody feet?
You blocking their road. Their movement. Their blessings….or even worse👉🏾you’re putting them on the path to jail😵💫
Don’t bring outside dirt in the house?
That’s not just “cleanliness”… that’s spiritual contamination control.
Throw salt over your shoulder?
That’s protection. Period.
Don’t let nobody play in your hair?
Your head is your crown… your portal… your receiver.
Don’t leave your purse on the floor?
You putting your money in a low place, draining your pockets… and wondering why it stay there.
Open windows after an argument?
You clearing energy… not just “airing out the house.”
Burning sage, incense, Florida Water?
That’s cleansing, yes… but also communication with the unseen.
And my favorite one…
“Don’t whistle at night.”
You ain’t calling the wind, baby…
you calling something that listens back.
See this what I mean…
We inherited a whole system
and called it “random rules.”
But That was survival magic.
That was your ancestors saying:
“I’m gonna make sure you have this… even if you don’t know what it is yet.”
🪞I used to follow some of these rules just because “that’s what my people said.”
Didn’t question it….Didn’t fully understand it.
Until I started really walking my path and realized I had already been practicing pieces of Hoodoo my whole life.
Just… blindfolded.
Like dmn……they really made sure I wouldn’t be spiritually naked out here.
Even when I didn’t know I was being protected.
That’s love. That’s legacy. That’s power.💯
And some of the most powerful traditions?
The ones we forgot.
🗣️Talking to your ancestors out loud.
🗣️Feeding them.
🗣️Keeping water out for them.
🗣️Praying over your food with intention, not habit.
🗣️Speaking life OR death over your own situation (bc… your mouth is a spell too. They called it SPEAKING IT INTO EXSISTENCE).
So, Be careful what you joke about. Be careful what you say “always happens” to you. Be careful what you claim as your reality.
Because some of y’all ain’t cursed…
you just been repeating the wrong script.
Respectfully.
👏🏾Start paying attention to what you were taught.
Ask yourself WHY. Don’t just throw it away because it sound “old” or “country.”
That’s your inheritance.
And some of y’all sitting on power
calling it “just something my grandma used to say.”
But in reality, It’s deeper than that. Way deeper.
Let’s bring this knowledge back to life together 🖤
