Do you know what happened to the balletinsider website? Iseems to have disappeared.
No idea. It went offline a few months ago and I’m very surprised that they haven’t fixed it yet.
What do you know of the Kirov Academy of Washington, DC where VBA grad Oscar Frame attended?
I only know what Oscar mentioned in our interview. I find it interesting that the school apparently went through some administrative drama in the time Oscar was there. It’s also interesting that the school, like so many other academies around the world, claims to teach Vaganova method, when Tsiskaridze has explicitly stated that no school outside of Russia is authorised to do so. Anyway, you can read about the academy on their website.
Do you have any videos of Tatyana Osipova doing the white swan in the BBA graduation?
No videos, I’m afraid.
Why would the Bolshoi be cursed?
It’s just what people used to say in the 19th century because of the theatre’s tendency to burst into flame.
What is the difference between the Mariinsky main stage, and the Mariinsky II stage? Do different productions happen on them, is there a different prestige that goes with them?
From what I understand, the new stage was built to allow Mariinsky to run more performances. It’s got all the latest equipment built-in and, therefore, allows more technical flexibility.
You can read about the Mariinksy’s historical stage here and the new stage here.
fischerpk1 said:If you could create one thing as a ballerina that the world would know you for, what would it be whether it would be a dance technique or new piece of equipment?
I’m not a dancer. That being said, if I had unlimited power, I would enact some serious education reforms. For one thing, I would make ballet history and classical music compulsory subjects at every ballet academy in the world.
Hi! I know you did the Q&A with Francesca Faella, so I figured you might have kept in touch. Do you know has she left ballet altogether? Between her training at La Scalla and VBA, I was looking forward to seeing how she developed as a professional dancer.
Unfortunately, I haven’t been in touch with Francesca since she graduated. I know that after graduating VBA she returned to Italy to complete her high school education and nurse her injured leg. I’m not sure if she’s given up on ballet entirely, but she’s now studying at LUISS.

For once, I polished one of my notebook doodles. I can’t help scribbling all over my notes at work. At some point I made a portrait of Faella, a very old RP character of mine. The only evil character I’ve ever played. It was a lot of fun :3
In a nutshell, she is a fairy-like creature, immortal, and kind of a bored retired evil queen.
