MELISSA KING: SORRY, I JUST SCARED MYSELF.
the sound of metal rattling against metal echoed through the corridor. joel’s hand was on his piece before the sound even finished bouncing off the linoleum, his heart hammering against his chest. he’d been staring at the patient manifest near the nurse’s station, his vision blurring from about forty eight hours of no sleep, but the loud noise was enough to wake him up for a few seconds. eyes were wide and bloodshot as he turned to see doctor king by a heavy rolling cart, supposedly having just collided with it and the equipment on top. as soon as she confirmed it was her, his hand left his weapon, rubbing a palm along the back of his neck before walking over to her, picking up a box of gloves that had fallen to the floor. ‘scared me a little, too,’ joel admitted with a close lipped grin, placing the box back where it belonged before looking up at mel. ‘you sure you’re okay?’ joel asked after a moment of looking her over. @faerys.
