Thailand's Department of Intellectual Property Works With Lazada to Tackle Fake Goods
BANGKOK – Thailand’s Department of Intellectual Property joins hands with Lazada to tackle fake goods on the e-commerce website following reports of customer complaints.
Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) chief Tossapol Tungsubut said the department held talks with executives of Lazada Group, the leading e-commerce platform on the measures to tackle online counterfeit goods.
Online shoppers can file complaints via Lazada website or its application. Lazada has adopted Alibaba Group’s system to allow trademark or copyright owners to register in its IP Protection Portal (IPP) system, so they can alert Lazada about intellectual property infringement on its e-commerce platform.
The department will continue working closely with Lazada, local and foreign intellectual property owners to build network to crack down IP infringement on online shopping platform efficiently.

Tim Demarais works for an American company called ABRO. The brand is a big deal in many foreign countries. They sell so much masking tape in places like Pakistan that when people there refer to a roll of masking tape, they'll often call it a roll of ABRO.
But back in 2002, ABRO's sales started to dip. Tim heard from a customer that counterfeit ABRO goods in China might be causing the problem. So, he flew over to investigate. What he discovered-- the extent of the fraud--was shocking. And even more surprising, the company posing as ABRO insisted they were the real ABRO.
Today on the show, it's real ABRO vs. fake ABRO.
