“Wow, you’re good! After this, we should solve crimes.”
Normal was a town possessed by more than just demons. It was possessed by (un)holy traditions of chastity and balls. The unfortunate fact of Violet’s sacrifice during the pageant left them drawing straws with all the boys involved (for equality, Holly insisted).
So it happened that Jamie drew a short one, while Kaz drew an even shorter one. The girls had a party gussying up the the two of them, picking the laciest white gown for Jamie and a buttoned up suit for Kaz. The operation was a sting to infiltrate the church for cultist leads, but Mariana’s paint job had drawn on more than Jamie’s eyebrows.
The parade of heads that turned when Kaz arrived with his new, brunette promisee had Jamie fielding welcomes with toneless and empty platitudes until they made it to the ceremony.
Jamie cut Kaz a dry look from under his veil, itching at his waistline and regretting the three burgers he had before dressing. “Haha, very funny.”
