On the bench in the Alpine House it was Crocus goulimyi (fall crocus) time to shine. This cormous perennial flowers in the autumn as the leaves begin to appear. The species is from southern Greece.

The autumn crocuses are right on time. Even though we see this beauty every fall, it’s always a bit of a shock to see such a giant splash of purple in these tulip-like blooms pop up.
