Tessa, fille of Duke James Elliot and his wedded spouse, be a rising adept in the art of late healing. She doth discover some peasants who have perished and bringeth them to her abode to restore their health. Her four companions be useful knaves about the manor, and she tendeth to them more lovingly than her progenitors could e’er aspire to be. Alas, in spite of Tessa's utmost endeavors, the latest one, Cyn, hath a fiendish soul tainting and swaying her.

Cyn, under the control of the demon, begins creating cursed armor that binds to the other undead servants. Armor that turns them against the masters of the house, and their guests. The slaughter was terrible and swift.

Tessa survives, and is trapped in a magical gem that Cyn wears, having promised to not abandon her.

Years of destruction later, in a distant village surrounding the ninth copper mine of a neighboring kingdom, wizards explore demonic contracts of their own, trying to form an army to battle them. The backlash of the magic causes the entire lands to become undead, who just continue their old lives, without needing to eat.

Uzi is a young undead who has the spirit of an artificer. She finds the invading monsters under the command of Cyn, and somehow converts on to her side. Now, she and N work to free the others, and defeat the demonically possessed Cyn.

What did you love about Brienne/Jaime to make them a forever ship of yours?

they have a standing/fallen knight dynamic that i've always found very compelling. coupled with the beauty and the beast reversal, i really didn't stand a chance. you can check out my fallen knights tag for more info on my archetypes project (which i totally forgot about until now)

Fallen Knights: Would Uzi be able to – completely spit alling here – create a suit of armor that could be animated by a soul bound to an object? Like a gem, perchance?

As of the time this story is, no. She still needs a body in the suit, however as she grows more powerful in her craft, she would be able to eventually make a suit of armor like that.

She has yet to learn how to bind spirits fully.

She's working on making an artificial heart for her father, but that's not ready yet.

Oh, and she made a psionic disrupter and connection link to allow her to access the minds of others. Disturbingly N was okay with being the test subject.

will you tell us more about your fleshed-out knight/queen archetypes? :D :D

one day maybe! it’ll probably be a book-length project, though, because it’s not just about the archetypes themselves but the dynamics they create when paired or grouped together. for example, rey + finn + poe is standing knight (a character with a sense of duty who hasn’t been morally injured and is tasked with saving the fallen knight) + prince (character who has risen from humble beginnings in order to answer to a greater call) + rogue (character who gets shit done and pushes the plot forward with some specific expertise), and that grouping develops how they move within the greater story.

so i have to choose a bunch of canons to work with, and i have to figure out how to say what i want to say because i’ve never written anything like this before, and i don’t know whether it should be “here are patterns i’ve noticed and narrow concepts for previously ambiguous things that are now easier to spot and analyze” or “once you see these concepts through this lens it becomes easier to write them.” or both, i guess. anyway here’s where i’ve started with the fallen knight:

The Fallen Knight’s moral ambiguity is always in question. Prior to the start of the narrative, he was driven by goodness and a sense of duty toward his people. He has likely taken on an occupation centered around discipline, honor, and loyalty. He has gained an expertise in this occupation and is highly regarded. However, through some great moral injury, he has fallen. He has been betrayed by a King, Queen, or Scion, and forced to act against his good nature. This grave moral injury has earned him infamy and a nickname befitting his villainy, however, at his worst, he is only a tool for a King or Queen’s greater evil. After the initial fall, he uses his expertise to commit major atrocities, and grows jaded and complacent to his own moral failing.

Leading his own narrative, the Fallen Knight is tasked with redemption, but he cannot go it alone. His friend-turned-enemy or enemy-turned-friend, the Standing Knight, sees him for who he used to be, and lifts him back to standing. However, the Fallen Knight must remain accountable for his misdeeds, and in a final act of redemption, often sacrifices himself for the greater good.

there are additional considerations, like writing the archetypes in various positions, what their narratives look like when they’re the protagonist, the sidekick, the romantic interest, etc. it’s gonna be a whole Thing.

i need to tell you the strangest thing that happened anon

so i am narcoleptic, and sometimes i wake up in the middle of the night and check all my social media and immediately forget about it. i did that, and saw this ask, and i was like “damn jaime lannister is just a westeros johnny cash”

and then a character meta BURST THROUGH MY GOTDAMN MIND about the single thing in common every character i’m obsessed with has, which is being a fallen knight. and i proceeded to type out all my thoughts about it to @aerialiste while half-asleep in order to transcribe them to coherent thoughts today. idk if i’ll post it, it’s probably not helpful or interesting to anyone but me, because it’s only answering the question “why do i get so obsessed with this extremely specific character archetype and what does it say about me”

Celebrating Birthdays: Duke King

If Duke isn't back home during his birthday, one can expect he's stuck on the phone with his family for about half the day.

"We don't want to keep you too long" And suddenly it's been a solid 2 hours or his phone is blowing up from people wishing him happy birthday.

This works for the rest of the FK, who have more than enough time to plan something for him.

Normally, Duke is the one baking birthday cakes for everyone, and none of them have his skills in the kitchen.

Naturally, they won't bother making a mess in the kitchen to make something themselves.

Especially with Duke in the other room who can smell if something is burning.

So they opt to get a box of cupcakes the same amount as his age they end up customizing with various messages.

Some are sweet, some are funny, and some, best to not read out loud.

Duke peaks in halfway through looking exhausted from answering birthday wishes.

Right before getting dragged back by yet another call.

To keep him entertained, Phoenix decides to hand him a random cupcake throughout the day.

Which is fun when it's something nice, but now he has to try not to react to the less angelic messages while on the phone.

He's absolutely getting back at her and Andy later

And yes, he knows them enough to know exactly who wrote what

The rest of the day is spent doing whatever he wants to do, whether it's to go out, or stay in with takeout and a movie or game, with Phoenix giving him a shoulder massage and everyone handing him the rest of the cupcakes and gifts they got him.

He may not admit it enough, but he loves them all. Even Andy, despite his stupid 'Kiss the Cook' apron gift.
