It had been six months since Mary Jane decided to join the military. After her acting career went down the drain, it was one of the only other things she could think of doing. The decision was pretty dramatic at the time, but even since she actually began training and learning, it wasn't something she necessarily hated. In all honestly, she had grown to enjoy it. Being here made her realize just how strong she was, and MJ loved it. Shooting guns, learning tactics, all of it. At first she doubted herself, but now she was confident. Throughout the training she had received high marks in almost all areas, and they were considering to actually send her on a mission. Of course this made her nervous, but at the same time she was ready. It would be a partner mission, so she'd have someone there that would hopefully have her back.

A week later, the mission was confirmed. "So it's happening." She spoke, not to anyone in particular. Now all that was left was meeting the person who would be going with her. MJ packed her things and put them on the plane, sitting down on a box of ammo as she waited. The sun was setting, and they were going somewhere in Russia. All the details hadn't even been released to her yet, but she shrugged it off. However, it was supposed to be a rescue mission. Luckily no one chose to send her on some undercover murder mission as her first real military experience. It was five minutes till they were supposed to take off, and she had a sense of calm about her. Like this is where she was supposed to be. "This is happening." Mary Jane said, a small smile on her face.

Let's Leave it At "My Bad" || Tony & Open (Mugger AU)

Prompt: Tried to rescue you while you were being mugged but I messed up and got knocked out so now you have to take me to the hospital on top of your wallet just being stolen

In his defense, he was only trying to help. On his way back from a date--it had been a disaster, and he'd thought the walk would help--he'd seen the mugger approach down the alley, and while it was true that no, he'd never really learned any self-defense, and no, he wasn't armed and ready, being "the hero" had seemed like the right end to a bad day (and anyway, didn't they say that standing by just made you part of the problem?). The only problem was that the mugger was two feet taller than him and at least twice as wide, and the moment he tried to intervene, he found a fist flying toward his face instead.

The next thing Tony knew, he was waking up on the pavement, head feeling like it had been split in two, and the mugger was nowhere in sight. Nor was the wallet he'd been trying to defend. Yes, the perfect end to a perfect day.

Frankly speaking, the "tech" column was a piece of trash before Tony ever came to work for the Daily Bugle. After graduating from MIT, the last thing in the world he thought he'd be doing was writing for the town's shit "news" source (even in college, even in the most depressing of classes when they reminded everyone that "being an inventor" was a not full time gig and they'd have to get a second job, his idea of writing had at least been for the New York Times). Graduated at fourteen, Tony was able to waste a few years inventing at home and had even sold the patents for a dozen or so rather successful inventions--a new smart phone, a high tech toaster, etc.--when his parents died in a car accident. The time then came to get a "real" job as Obadiah, his father's old assistant, kept saying day in and day out.

So there he was, twenty, writing The Daily Bugle's "recently most successful" column--you're welcome, Jameson--and nearly banging his head against the keyboard as he tried to think up layman's terms for his "Invention of the Week." At the same time, he snuck a peak at Lily Russell's latest column, a guilty habit he just couldn't kick. He'd always thought the title "nemesis" was a bit dramatic, but he was running out of adjectives to describe his least favorite writer--nay, person--on the planet.

Just as he suspected, it was another anti-mutant tirade, and he couldn't quite roll his eyes enough without getting them stuck in the back of his head. Why she was still employed here was the world's greatest mystery (though Jameson was the devil). Tony crumpled up his copy of that day's paper, rolled his chair back from his desk and threw the ball at the back of Lily's head. "Do you even try, honestly?" he asked.

Every Penny Counts || Darcy and Lily (1900s Bounty Hunters AU)

Darcy watched the busy town square from the window of the third story apartment she and Lily shared. The bustle was unbelievable and it was getting busier everyday it seemed. The world was progressing, yet at the same time…it still seemed so old-fashioned. For now, the movements down in the square were the usual, but it wouldn’t stay that way.

She had been keeping up with the recent campaigns for the new State Governor. Politics could be so interesting when it wasn’t infuriating. Yet again, the election ballot would be free of a woman’s name. Of course, women couldn’t be involved in politics. It wasn’t as if their sex made up half the population, did half the labour, and made sure there even was a future generation to look after. It was stifling and despite the occasion humouring, Darcy knew it would just be a waste of time trying to run for any political position.

So, instead, she stuck with what she knew, something that guaranteed food on the table and a few spare dimes for new dresses and hats. Later today, when the public debate for the election were going to staged, she and Lily would go to work. With all the city’s constables focused on securing the political event, the two of them would have an easy time carrying out their latest contract. $90 was promised to each of the women for the clean and quiet termination of some Mr. William Nesbitt; the man was a wealthy land owner, one that Darcy and Lily were planning to make sure was in the ground rather than selling it.
