“Hakuryuu?”
Calling for her brother with light, measured steps against the floor below, Hakuei glanced around the corridors she was currently searching. Surely he hadn’t gone far. It was with the promise of a freshly cooked meal that she must have scared him away-- at the very least, that is what she thought.
But practice makes perfect, and practicing her skill was exactly what she had intended to do. Now, she only needed someone to give her the verdict-- to judge the fruits of her labor.
“You really are too old to be playing hide and seek, brother...”
Judal. So, that was his new master’s name? He swore the syllables sounded familiar, as if he’d heard the name somewhere else, a long, long time before… A time he didn’t like to remember, because it hurt far too much to recall a life long gone.
“O-oh. Well, thank you for buying me then, Master Judal,” he said, showing the man before him a bow. He knew the other looked a little out of place among the crowd. Perhaps he was representative of a wealthy family? But if that were the case, why didn’t he intend on bidding? Whatever it was, Hakuryuu felt a little thankful that it was this man and not someone else. Some of the others that bid on him (a select few, as not many wanted damaged property like himself), seemed like shadier individuals, ones that would greatly mistreat him. For whatever reason, though, he had the feeling Judal wouldn’t. Maybe it was only false hope…
“You strike me as a kind master. I will gladly serve you and your household… Is there anything you want me to do now? Buy items for you? Prepare a meal?” He asked, growing excited at his previous question. “I don’t mean to offend you at all and brag in your presence, but my previous master thought I was a great cook. I can make anything you like, whenever you want it.”
What was so different about this one? What was so special about him that he managed to outshine even royalty? Judal didn’t really care whether it could have been considered rude or inappropriate to stare for so long; there was something about the male before him that was strange, and he couldn’t quite place what it was. He knew it was probably going to keep bugging him until he figured it out- which in turn only ended up bugging him more.
It was only when Hakuryuu spoke that the Magi seemed to be broken out of his musings, quickly shaking his head in an attempt to clear it. The addition to his name- he had asked to be called only Judal, after all- caused him to frown slightly, though he decided it wasn’t really worth mentioning. Quite frankly, he supposed he didn’t really care what he ended up calling him, just so long as he was capable of recognizing when he was being referred to. “Eh? Kind?” He blinked at the implication that there was even a kind bone in his body.
”If you want to cook...” What was he supposed to say? That he ordered him to? That just felt... Weird. He had no problem bossing people around under ordinary circumstances before, though he had never gone out of his way to purchase another human being- and why would he? It wasn’t as though his needs weren’t already catered to. Though that raised the problem of how exactly he was going to excuse this. He couldn’t say anything about the Rukh; that would only draw unnecessary attention. “If you want to cook, then fine. I don’t have a problem with it; I’ll pay for any ingredients you think you might need just try to keep the vegetables to a minimum. Impress me or something, okay? If anyone gives you trouble, just tell them you’re a subordinate of the Kou Empire’s Oracle.”
