💫🏆💫 Life has been pretty full lately. Everyday has its beauty, its challenges and its ability to put you exactly where you need to be. I am so grateful for everything and everyone who’s in my life today. I’m also grateful for getting my tooth extracted, seeing @gill_williams_ I’m his first ever art show, being in a super secret awesome show with @napom_official @gill_williams_ @megananneferguson , working with @amitbeats on his project, practice with @gene_shinozaki To be at @carnegiehall And practicing with @calebteicher For a #fallfordance at @nycitycenter Also, the American Beatbox Champs. Excited to see the progress of @american_beatbox and the scene at the champs. @realjakerich @kailamullady @markmartincreative @mr_xndr have been putting in a lot of time, effort and energy into making an experience. I know there have been rumblings on the Internet about the validity of the event, it’s quality and the people running it. Unity is the most important thing to me. Community is important to me. Family is important to me. We have the same goal in making beatboxing the next it thing. I also think it’s great to disagree with each other to create the best solution In order to come up with the greatest ideas. I started @thebeatboxhouse with the intention of having a safe place where everyone feels welcome to express themselves. I’ve been part of the champs from the very first one in 2010. What I saw in the early stages of the community is that “wow, everyone is down to share special sounds and techniques but no one is really sharing who they are as people. And I’d love if we could do that.” That’s all a long winded way of saying that I want all of us in our community to be better to each other. Talk to each other. Support each other. I don’t want to be like the other elements of hip-hop where people have life long beefs, shady talks behind each other’s backs and ultimately a segmented scene that doesn’t move forward. So, if you’re an American beatboxer, what is that YOU think we can be doing as community that can push our whole scene forward ? What do you think we can do better ? The piece features Austin Goodwin and Ida Saki was amazing! I was even more glad that both of them got a solo part, especially Austin’s solo part was under the spotlight, literally. Thank you, Sonya Tayeh!
I’m always happy to catch SNM cast members performing in a different setting. It’s a good reminder of how incredibly talented they are, and we need to be grateful for our privilege to watch them so closely.
Other pieces in the same show were wonderful too. The two dancers from NDT2 really blew me away with their incredibly intense movements. Bravo 👏
