Falling MV teaser - an analysis

Again this was posted on Twitter first and I know lot’s of the assumptions I made in the teaser analysis did not come true in the MV (notably the bathtub thing) I still want to share it here because most parts are about the visuals and they held true also in the MV (added some corrections, but left in my original thoughts just for the fun of it)

The room we see is in a mixed baroque style. The floor and parts of the wall are marble, wallpaper in a muted blue, broken ornaments and a greek amphora are visible, as is a bit of an ornamented bathtub/sink(grand piano) The blinders door is off white and looks aged like the rest of the room. The once opulent design of the room is decayed, the appearance has faded to a dull remembrance.

Water is spilling over the rim of the bathtub/sink(grand piano) and has flooded the room, making its appearance off. The flooding water, partially destroyed blinders and Harry panting in exhaustion speak of a fight, rising steam adds to the feeling of heat and anger. (Turns out it was really cold when they filmed it. They heated the water so H wouldn’t get hypothermia. But the visual fits, even when in the MV there was no display of anger or a physical fight)

The light from outside only breaks through the blinders partially and lighting the room in irregular patches 

Visual language and symbolism

Colours 

the colours are generally muted with a blue tint, the brightest spot is the white light breaking through the blinders

most noticeable colours are:

the blue wallpaper - blue usually standing for bravery and dedication, wisdom and depth of understanding but can also hint at being sad/depressed which seems to be picked up by the blue tinting of the scene, i.e. feeling blue

the black & white checkered floor - can be seen as the duality of light and darkness, clarity and ignorance

Harry's clothes (purple shirt and brown trousers)

Brown standing for reliability, elegance, security, healing, home, grounding, foundations, stability, warmth, honesty

Purple standing for royalty and ambition, creativity, wisdom and pride

In general purple combines the calm stability of blue and the fierce energy of red. So the shirt can be seen as a bridge between the blue atmosphere of the room and the anger that seems to permeate it

(the purple shirt turns out to be white or a very pale pink in the MV, but it being wet and the added blue tint to the whole scene made it look purple)

Symbolism

White light

clarity and goodness, it doesn't really illuminate the room, only sets irregular accents 

there is clearly not enough to give clarity to the confusion

black & white checkered floor

duality, no balance between 2 contrasting elements 

Flowing water 

cleansing, fertility, purification, renewal

serving as a base for the violent scene that took place and making renewal/change possible

steam

can represent spirit output, letting off steam

Marble

believed to provide clarity, self-control and stability both physically and emotionally

the room itself becomes a grounding part to calm the violence/letting off steam

Lace (and wet shirt)

symbolise the duality of being guarded (clothed) and vulnerable (see through/naked)

barefoot

being unprotected and vulnerable

a little bonus is the greek amphora as a nod to the very greek/roman theme of the Falling performance at the Brits
