__Couple kissing before the fall of the Berlin Wall, 1989
The Fall of the Berlin Wall – 9 November 1989
On this day in 1989, the world witnessed one of the greatest triumphs of human courage and unity — the fall of the Berlin Wall. It wasn’t just concrete and wire that came crashing down; it was the barrier between freedom and tyranny, truth and propaganda, hope and despair.
For nearly three decades, that wall divided families, friends, and a nation. Yet, it could never divide the spirit of the people. The East Germans who refused to submit, who stood shoulder to shoulder and demanded liberty, showed the world what happens when citizens unite for a common cause. No tanks, no guns, no tyrant could silence that cry for freedom.
The Berlin Wall didn’t fall because politicians wanted it to. It fell because the people said “enough.” It fell because truth, courage, and collective strength defeated fear.
We must never forget that lesson. Governments grow powerful only when citizens forget their own power. Freedom is not given; it is defended.
Never surrender to the government. Never surrender your voice.
Happy 31st Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall (09 Nov. 1989) today to all my German friends. Behold how good and how pleasing if brothers (people) could sit together in unity.
When you sit - not stand - together in unity as opposed to standing over or looking down on someone. And in unity you sit (or dwell) simply as people and as equals on the same eye level and without any sense of inferiority towards 'the other', then you can find the true path to peace. This is a very old mystical Jewish hymn, and it is performed in this clip as a doina/call to prayer that traverses the Jewish, Arabic and Central/East European Gypsy traditional music idioms. The word 'yachad' יחד معا (together) is from the word 'yachid' وحيد יָחִיד which means absolute unity and has a higher connotation than simply just peace and harmony as it implies unity with the creator according to Jewish scripture. 'Yachad' وحيد יָחִיד in this hymn therefore has an even higher connotation than simply it's literal translation 'together' in that implies unity with everything: the universe, with other people and an ascended level of universal consciousness.
Performed on 5/8/14 at Gethsemane Church in Prenzlauer Berg for an interfaith prayer for peace gathering. The very same reform church where along with Zionskirche Berlin also in Prenzlauer Berg peaceful demonstrations against the GDR government took place in 1986 which morphed into the mass demonstrations against Communism (translation: totalitarianism) that led to the fall of the Berlin Wall 3 years later in 1989. The combined numbers of this date just so happen to make up the number 18 that in Jewish tradition translates as 'chai' حي חַי or 'life' (5, 8, 1, 4). Also completely unintentional was the direct centring in front of the Cross in the Church. It is always like this. Life is always unintentionally things falling into place no matter how much 'control' some human beings naively think that they have. This is the real natural beautiful organic and wonderfully strange world that we live in. That we will never understand and really should simply and humbly be happy never to really understand and just accept for what it simply is. SHALOM. SALAAM. שלום سلام
