I know nobody cares but I can't stress how much I like the Service Rifle's design from FNV. Yes, it's a M4 with a wood stock, but I mean how practical it's in the Wasteland. Good durability (and a mod. to help so), solid semi-auto fire with good accuracy, deals a reasonable damage for its small (but VERY common) 5.56mm rounds, and good mag. and reload speed. Damn it, it even has minimal requirements to use, implying anyone can shoot with it.

It's not an excellent gun in any aspect, but it's very reliable for all situations a NCR trooper may face. Legionary patrol 400 yards away? You can hit it. Fiend crackhead rushing you with a tire iron? Mag dump and pray. Long field expedition? That shit is gonna tank it.

Not the best gun, far from it, but it's a solid standard rifle and that's what it's here for.
