In an ideal world they'd be besties

Sometimes i think about how Metropolis had a message about returning to Christian values (as expected of a proto-fascist film) and part of this was a really clear rejection of the "whore" character. But in order to spread that message, Brigitte Helm had to portray and ultimately become the "whore". Meanwhile despite also playing the Madonna, she can never become the Madonna because the Madonna is a closed off concept that once you exit you can't go back to.

like from most films Brigitte does its clear she's comfortable with her sexuality and probably doesn't have issues with being "the whore", but i do think its interesting that the film's message only works if she is sexually liberated enough to portray the whore, but the result of that message is to reject that same sexuality that led to its success.

Also i think its interesting that almost everything is blamed on the robot. The end message ended up being "make peace with rich but kill the whore/communists cause actually they're being sent by the rich to kill you". I have no clue why i would make peace with the person sending people to kill me.
