🔒ㅤ.ㅤwhat is a secret they’ve sworn never to tell ?
quiet nature & clairvoyance have doomed the youngest Hewett to a multitude of secrets : his abilities themselves, the true depths of his despair, all the private, painful details of others' lives that he inadvertently senses. he doesn't want anyone to feel like their mind has been invaded. he had learned that lesson young, before the waves cast him out and stole his voice. he's sworn many secrets ever since. some of them were even given voluntarily. those are the ones he treasures the most, held safely to his chest where nobody can find them. like this, at least, he can use his silence for good. like this, he can help without saying anything, and maybe that can be his secret, too.
📿 ㅤ.ㅤwhat superstition or ritual do they cling to ?
teddy doesn't put much weight in superstition. he has a black cat who follows him everywhere, he's carried good luck charms to no avail, he's done extensive research on nautical myths; still, he hasn't found a way to turn the tides. for a very long time, it didn't feel like he had anything to cling to at all. ritual, however, keeps him steady. he carries a worry stone in his pocket at all times, and smooths his thumb in a particular pattern when he needs to clear his mind. he makes the trip to his hometown on the same day every year, and takes the same winding path through the cemetery, lighting a single blue candle and waiting until the wind blows it out. most notable is the necklace he has worn every day since he was eleven years old. it stays tucked beneath his shirt most of the time, but he pulls it out when he's nervous, or particularly deep in thought, tracing the childish charm that hangs from the chain. in this way, he feels he can carry a lost spirit with him.
