there’s tension in the room, thick enough to be sliced by a knife. except, this type of tension doesn’t dance between two people, no. instead, it becomes a series of imposed events — a feigned friendship paraded around screens and on stage, sweet enough for the watching eye to eat up in its decadence.
but the type of tension lies bittersweet when minjung’s sitting in front of a large table, large stacked notecards in front with company that’s nearing a distant stranger. three, two, one. cameras on, and the staff behind the cameras motion for the beginnings of the grand play to start. (seo minjung paints on her mask, pulls together the strings that pull her lips upward into a wide-faced grin).
“today, it’s a special special day.” it’s the idol voice that lilts her voice a notch higher, her head tilting towards hayi. “full of surprises and i’m here with one of my closest friends, hayi.” her gaze turns, eying hayi face-to-face in a commiserated nod. “and today, we’re here to give advice to anyone who wants to pluck their own feather and shoot some questions.”
eyes following the lines of comments bursting at the screen, and she reads off the first on the screen: my favorite idol friends!! can you give me advice on what my friend and i should do for our ten year friendshipversary?
she tosses the question directly into the air. “i have many ideas, but hayi, you go first.”
