Its been a while but I think its time for one of Mr Hare's ghost stories. The tower of london has a dark history but this could be its most tragic. This spooky and tragic haunting is about the Princes in the tower. It was the year 1483 and King Edward IV had died suddenly, the cause of his death is still contested to this day. The throne went to his then oldest surviving son Edward who would become Edward V. Aged only 12 he and his brother Richard Duke of York aged only 9 were both under the protection of their fathers brother Richard Duke of Gloucester the future Richard the 3rd. There were housed in the infamous tower of london for protection under the guise of the upcoming coronation of Edward. However he deemed them illegitimate and took the thrown for himself. The Princes were kept in the tower but were seen less and less and in the summer of 1483 they had completely vanished. Nobody knows what happened to these poor boys. Many people believe they were murdered on orders from their uncle Richard the 3rd this is the most common theory. Others Henry VII ,or Henry Stafford. There were no witnesses or bodies found In 1674 workmen who were remodelling the tower of london came across a wooden box containing two child skeletons under the staircase to the Chapel in the white tower. Four years later the bones were placed in an urn on the orders of Charles the 2nd. Its widely believed these are the remains of the two children. In 1933 the bones were examined and they fit the age range of the princes. No further examination has been approved yet. People have often reported feelings of intense fear near the white tower. Others have heard the giggling of children despite none around. The frightened whimpers of kids are said to be heard at night and often or not the sightings of two little figures are seen wandering hand in hand. Are those the ghosts of the princes in the tower .... we will never know.
