Fancy duck

I bought ducklings from a guy in a pickup truck in a Tractor Supply parking lot. It was a stupid decision because now I love these ducks so much. I talk to them and watch them every day. They are so soft and silly. They’re friendly from being held a lot and will come up for cuddles.

But now it is time for an infodump: my little brown duck, she is a Cayuga duck. I didn’t know anything about Cayugas because I haven’t had ducks since I was a tot.

After diving down the rabbit hole of research, I learned that they are relatively uncommon. Only 10,000 in the world and only 5,000 in the US. Not only that, but they lay black eggs. The males are beautiful and iridescent green all over. The females are black-chocolate brown with black bills and feet.

Anyway, coolest duck in the world as far as I’m concerned. How did I get one from a pickup truck guy on a random Saturday?
