Wondering about your ideas on how Jean Grey regresses and her typical age range, I presume she would be mostly alone before and after the events in the film so any ideas on how she copes with that?
(my first ask, mb if I did it wrong lol.)
eee very excited to be your first ask!!
- jean typically does regress alone, and because of this, she can’t go as young as her brain would like her to. she generally falls around 4-5 yrs old — young enough to let go the way she needs to, but big enough that she can stay vigilant to any possible threat. she’ll still feel her younger self tugging on her, wanting to drop all the way. but she just can’t let herself — it never feels safe.
- jean doesn’t really have any toys or ‘typical’ agere things. she has a ratty old stuffed fox she’s had since she was a toddler and this is her ultimate comfort item. she brings it with her everywhere and she will sometimes move it around and play with it. she gives it a voice in her head rather than out loud. and instead of making up little scenarios, she has her fox do funny or sweet things to distract/comfort her.
- i imagine post-canon, jean motel hops for a little bit. sometimes, her regression looks like going to the nearest gas station at night and buying or stealing her favorite childhood snacks. the barrel juices her and sarah used to drink, the drum stick ice creams her favorite foster family would buy her as rewards for finishing her homework - things like that.
- in her room, she’ll turn on cartoon network or nick at nite if that still exists. jean doesn’t really know why she has the urge to do these things, but she knows it makes her feel a bit better, and it isn’t like there’s anyone there to judge her. so she lets it happen and hopes in the morning, she’ll be back to normal.
