I've seen a lot of posts complaning abt the fandom making Damian 'too dark and i for one am.. extremely confused

For one, what even is 'too dark'? Many people have been mentioning that both Arab and Chinese people are pale, but they are just as likely to be dark as well. Many mention that hes mixed, but mixed people can be dark as well

it just seems like such a non-issue. if i, a full Arab, am lighter than my quarter-Arab (and three quarters white) friend, then who cares how dark people are making him? there are plenty of other white/pale characters to enjoy, i don't see any value in criticizing how people are drawing him

He can be pale, he can be lightly tanned, and he can be fully brown. Its all entirely plausible and the argument is so odd to me

This is not to say I'm back or will be active, even though I have popped in more recently, but something is on my heart that I wanted to try to see if I could cast a net for kindred folk to connect or possibly create that much needed marginalized pocket of a fandom.

On this post, either reply, reblog with commentary, or put in the tags the fandoms and/or entertainment media that isolated you or made you feel like you could not connect with it due to misogynoir, antiblackness, and/or colorism against Black female characters, actresses, or fans.

Let this be your sounding board and possibly, your chance to find others in that/those fandom(s) who really wanted to socially enjoy, but never found their pocket.

I've noticed that in TF1 humanformers art, Megatron, the narrative- and fandom-demonized "bad one", is always the darkest-skinned one. Even when everybody else in the quartet isn't drawn as white, Megatron's still the only black one — or Bee is also black, but much lighter than Megatron, and lighter than human!Bee was in TFA.

I know Megatron's voice actor is black, but that doesn't exactly change the undertones.

Vidar’s existence in a mobile game in 2022 does not solve the 20 years of Disney/Square Enix/Nomura constantly gaslighting it’s own fans into thinking that Xehanort Kingdom Hearts after being explicitly a deep Dark Fenty 460 is now a 370. 

We get it, the visible whitewashing of the singular darkskinned character makes you uncomfortable. But why don’t you actually talk about it instead of pretending like some random side character that they villainize and kill is the INTENTIONAL solution to SE’s blatant distaste at having a character that’s darkskinned stay that way?

fr tho hate how white characters can get away w shit like actual genocide and fucking blowing up planets but let a character of color have even the littlest bit of attitude and people show up w fucking pitch forks and torches

and god, dint even get me started on them purposefully misinterpreting canon to justify a white characters actions, that shit will never cease to blow my mind

The worst part is when majority of a fandom write off those criticisms from actual black ppl/poc as us just complaining about everything and making it about race. Like, let me ask you, would all this vitriol exist if the characters were white? They claim it would but then just so happens to love a canonically worse yt character.

Im not saying people can’t like villains or anything but it’s always crazy how in most fandoms, the most hated/disliked/ignored characters will be the non white ones no matter their affiliations but the boring yt mf will be the fan fave ESPECIALLY if they’re a villain.

But if/when you call out the racism/colorism, now everyone is up in arms and claiming that you’re calling people racist for not liking certain characters or saying that you’re just labeling anyone who disagrees with you as a racist. It’s crazy asf how we’re expected to be happy with bare minimum crumbs but I just cannot.

I hope white weebs know that brown and tan Asian people exist. A fanartist/fanfic writer depicting a character from your favorite anime as brown is not the end of the world, I promise.
