Confessions of a Writer

Like many, I’ve recently fallen in love with the tv show Good Omens. More specifically, Crowley and Aziraphale. As a result, I’d love to write some whumpy fanfic (Aziraphale whump, because there was hardly any and now I’m craving it).

Confession Time: I’m scared to publish for fear of backlash. I’ve seen so many posts about the show (and how they changed a few things when compared with the book), and I’m worried that something I write, it my interpretation of the characters/world will ruin (for lack of a better word) the validation (also for lack of a better word) that a lot of the fans have gotten from the show. And then said fans will jump down my proverbial throat via comments, and that’s not something I can handle.

I know that, as a fandom, we all try to support one another as best we can, but I also realize that this is a fandom that has been years and the making, and here comes a bunch of newbies because of the tv show, and I’m concerned that the original fans will think less of us newbies and tear us apart.

PSA: Fandoms + Stances on Love

So, someone recommended a great blog post for me today... (Platonic Love)  And now I’m making a statement, apparently, fueled by the following.

“Why is it that everything has to be so strongly romantic in society today?  English only has one word to describe love. You don't get [Greek’s] Philia, Agape, Storge and Eros. You get love, love, love, and love.” This is curious to me, because the same could be said of Spanish (and its culture)... There are nuances within the terms of familial love, ideally equaling unconditional love, and these terms are quite valued. They’re exceptional, even.

Given this, and my own obsession with surrogate father-and-son relationships, I cannot, for the life of me, understand how fans go from viewing characters as parent & child to viewing them as lovers, one minute to the next. Familial love and sexual love are not meant to be so interchangeable. Cuddles, hugs, kisses and ‘I love you’s’ don’t need to be automatically associated with sex.

And when you alter aspects (age, origin stories, etc.) for AU’s so that there is “potential romance” between these characters we view first and foremost as family, I see character and dynamic erasure. We might as well say that Wincest stops being problematic in an AU where the boys are simply neighbors, unrelated, and so all the pesky narrative/moral issues go away... And yet, isn’t their brotherly love the factor that so many fans profess to admire?

And so, I want all Followers, or random people who stumble upon this, to know: if you ship the family dynamics that I so cherish, ship them IN ANY WAY, *meaning in any AU or convoluted scenario*, Block Me RN.

If you ship IronDad, Dadvid, Dad!Hank & Son!Connor [Daderson?], to name a few, I am urging you to stay away and not interact with me. Remember, this includes the excuse of AGING UP/DOWN to comply with ships.

And if I lose all followers, I would be fine. I’d rather know exactly who surrounds me, and who I can support, rather than feel disappointed somewhere down the road.

Mom, how many of the asks that go in do you answer? And for those that you don't reply to, what's usually the reason?

According to my gmail, I’ve received 52 asks in three days and I’ve answered 15 of them. There are easily a dozen more that I’d like to answer but this is a hobby not a job. There’s no rhyme or reason to the selection process. It’s click and go when the mood hits.

I opened this tumblr because I love talking about the series. What I’ve since recognized is that my inbox is far more talented than I am. The best of the snk fandom is emotional, funny, brilliant, passionate and curious--and these people choose to share their thoughts with me. That’s... yeah. Pretty amazing.

There’s no tumblr handbook for how to best manage an active inbox so I’m open to suggestions. I love getting asks. I enjoying knowing what the fandom is thinking and feeling plus I get to cherry pick all the erwin ones :)) but I do wonder if it would be better to turn off asks every few days to focus on what’s there. Or if it’s ok to selfishly let them keep flowing in.

Ok guys, this is a 100% completely serious question I need an answer to. No jokes, no exaggeration. Very serious. Are you ready? Here we go.

What is the MOST POLITE way to tell somebody that I disagree with their LGBT+ headcanons? 

The reason I ask this is because, in all honesty, we're not always gonna agree with each other's headcanons that have to do with a character's orientation/sexuality/gender identity, etc.

I need to know how to express my disagreement without sounding like an asshole. I've seen what happens when someone is...less than tactful in expressing their disagreements. Not only was there discourse, but they might have lost followers.

I don't want that to happen to me. I don't want to lose followers and I sure as royal hell do not want to cause discourse. For a long time, if I didn't agree with someone who says "I think so-and-so is gay or bi" or "I think so-and-so is trans", I would stay silent. But a long time ago, an anon said to "have some backbone" and "not to apologize for any headcanon that you might have".

For the most part, the community of a certain fandom that I'm a part of is a very friendly group of people that usually makes me feel safe. However, I still can't help but feel like they would...not exactly "disown" me, but "disregard" me if I even slightly disagree with whatever they had to say. For the record, these fears prevented me from posting my own LGBT/Gender Identity headcanons.

There are times where I wanted to speak up and share my opinions, whether positive or negative, but I was afraid of pissing people off. Especially those who have stuck by me and those who follow me even though I don't follow them.

If anybody has any advice on how to share my opinion without sounding like an asshole, or if anybody has any comforting words to say to me, I'd be happy to hear it. I just...I think I'm gonna turn in for the night.

Bleach Fandom, Behold and Prepare (lol)

Now that Naruto is over and the ships are confirmed, even when there's still war raging on, I can't help but feel that Bleach is going to be on the limelight now, especially in Shipping Wars. With Naruto ships having been confirmed, people will turn their attention to Bleach, since a lot of Naruto fans are also Bleach fans, and of course, there's an ongoing debate in shipping here. With One Piece not being really big on romantic relationships, and with Fairy Tale ships almost being confirmed (although there's also an ongoing debate on the subject of NaLu/NaLi), the frontrunner in ship wars would be most likely Bleach. One thing I know, however, is that when the end of Bleach comes, the same scenario would happen as what happened right now, with Naruto. It's gonna be an explosive ending. What a time to be alive.

Well considering that there are more Weasleys than named people of color in seven books (let alone longtime recurring characters), as Cherii and I discussed just now, this really isn't an expectation we should have.
