it surprises me you don’t cry at movies, given how deep you feel about your feels.

To be quite honest, I don’t cry much at all? It takes a lot to bring me to literal tears, although I’ve been known to tear up here and there, I guess. (Damn it, the ending of Coco.) I laughed most of the way down the aisle at my own wedding and usually power through physical pain with excessive cursing.

I do feel my feels very deeply, but also...it’s really easy to lapse into hyperbole and capslock on this website. Like, I do have visceral reactions to fictional haps—ask anyone who’s seen a Marvel movie with me—and I obviously have emotions. But I think my feels may end up seeming more extreme in fandom spaces than they are in the three-dimensional world.

i'm going through your all your glorious genisys and terminator tags and i'm sorry but i'm just a little bit verklempt right now ugh my feels cannot handle this this is supposed to be a nice quiet Sunday morning for me and now it seems i'll be spend the time crying over killer robots and time traveling otps instead. thanks a lot.

I’m glad you’re enjoying (?) my tags—I really thought my Connor family feels had been resolved last year after I finished a freakin’ 80,000-word fic on the matter, but along came Genisys to fuck me right back up. I get why the general public thought it was too complicated or whatever, but...damn, I enjoyed the hell out of those newly twisted timelines.

So, if nothing else, it’s always nice to find other people who are spiraling, too ;)

tl;dr...stars-inthe-sky reads a lot of fanfiction, and you don't even know the half of it.

775 posts later, I think I have archived every fanfic I have ever thought was worthy of mentioning to someone else and/or that was good enough that I remembered it myself even without a digital record of it. At least since early 2009. That's more than five years' worth of fic-reading in over two dozen fandoms (and some confusing subsets thereof).

And what's really crazy is that I've been reading fic since early 2001, so there's likely quite a lot of Potterfic I once loved but have since completely forgotten about--as well as fic for Spring Awakening, 10 Things I Hate About You, the Matrix, Moulin Rouge, Smallville, and Lizzie McGuire. And those are just the fandoms I remember dabbling in back in the day. I know there were more.

Anyway, the thirty-posts-at-a-time mass updates of starred-fics are now over, but please please please go comb through the tags/archive and find some new awesome things to enjoy! This was always meant as an archive more than a regularly-updated thing, although I hope to continue adding to it--I have an insanely long AO3 queue, and I assume at least some of what's there is good!

Also, please let me know if there's a way to search for two tags at once, because that would be super-useful (e.g., to see posts that are tagged both "the avengers" and "gen").

One thing you love and one thing you hate about Tumblr.

I love love LOVE the community here. I love that this site is full of people who are delightful and odd and creative in so many different directions. I love the text posts noting in lower-case letters those little moments that I always thought were just me. I love the way people can (intelligently) pick apart the littlest moments, and I love feeling like I've actually gotten to know so many of you without actually knowing your first names.

I kinda hate how much time I spend on Tumblr. It's really addicting, and it's definitely had a negative impact on my productivity as well as skewing my thinking in some weird directions--some good, some less so. (I'm also really sick of people who bash River Song.)

In honor of your ten year: what fandom did you have the most fun with?

In terms of things that happen outside my head, definitely Parks & Recreation! It’s the only fandom where I’ve met (albeit mostly virtually) a whole community of people that I’ve gotten to know as individuals. I’d been in fandom for a good long while before discovering Parks, but the experience of watching and squeeing over a show with that crew has been new and delightful.

Internally, probably the Whedonverse. “Buffy" was far from my first fandom, but it was the first fandom that general fandom led me to, and certainly the first TV show where I thought, “Well, I liked this, I’ll probably like the creator’s other stuff, too." And then I proceeded to fangirl all over the ‘verse. The fact of Joss Whedon also makes a BIG difference—it was my first experience with a creator who was a huge fan of things himself, and who had been openly and in great detail chatting about why he does all the things he does for a good decade before I showed up. Even though I don’t have a personal community within that fandom, it’s so big and active and awesome that I’ve really had a lot of fun being a part of it. And it did change the way I approach being a fan in the process.

(For those of you that thought I’d say Doctor Who: I loooove the show and a lot of the fandom that goes along with it, but a) there’s just so damn much of it that it’s hard to be really comprehensive and b) people can get really nasty with their shipper wars and anti-Moffat tirades, which takes a lot of fun out of it.)

1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?

Angel/Cordelia (Angel), Jack/Gwen (Torchwood), any Firefly m/m pairing (nothing against slash, I just don’t buy it among any of those guys), Ann/Tom (Parks), Britta/Troy (Community), any pairing that ends in -cest in any fandom…

2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only friend ship?

I can really go either way on Ann/Chris and River/Jayne. Definitely Spuffy (gotta appreciate a good redemption arc but you’re never going to dissuade me from shipping Bangel) and Kaylee/Jayne. 

3. Any fandoms that don’t appeal to you?

AMC shows (Mad Man, Breaking Bad, Walking Dead). Supernatural and Friday Night Lights (watched the first half-dozen episodes of each and didn’t really care). Teen Wolf. Merlin. Castle. Avatar. Fringe. X-Files. 

That’s not to say none of these fandoms are worth the investment; I’m just not into them.
