When ship fic relies too much on readers already wanting characters to be together and the author doesn't write them in a way where anyone who didn't already feel that way would want them to be together.
This is not a "toxic relationships fics bad" thing, this is a they're not interesting together in these fics and they don't seem like they should be together even if their incompatibilities in the universes of these fics are boring complaint.
