hmm if you think a fictional clan/ethnic group/species/etc. is canonically depicted as genetically "crazed" and "evil," then maybe your response should be to condemn the writing, not uncritically uphold that interpretation as evidence for your metas that akshually that group of humans/humanoids/etc. deserve state-sanctioned violence and all their fans are overreacting. that's just me though 😳

sometimes i wonder how the fuck can naruto fandom be so ableist and bioessentialist that they dont see anything wrong with a genetically inherited curse of hatred that supposedly drives a canonically oppressed, genocided clan "evil" from grief. but then i see tweets and posts with thousands of likes explicitly pathologizing fascism/bigotry/capitalism, calling them mental illnesses, and comparing them to specific stigmatized disorders, as if mentally ill people arent frequently targeted by fascists, and naruto fandom's sanism suddenly becomes a lot less shocking to me. like why do i always forget how much bigots just outright hate us lol, i should know better by now

hey i saw your take how the naruto fandom is ableist and i haven't been watching it but i want to, can you expound why you think so? (spoilers is fine i have so many naruto blogs followed)

well wrt to sasuke specifically, whom that post was about, here's some stuff i remember just off the top of my head:

making fun of his PTSD

making fun of the fact he lost his arm

erasing his physical disability

claiming that not using a prosthetic...makes him a bad father and husband? somehow???

and uncritically regurgitating all of tobirama's sanist, bioessentialist bullshit about the uchiha clan

Every now and then I see someone talk about the way fandom treats a certain character and their opinion on it and sometimes I don’t agree with it and go “you know what, that’s fine, we all have different interpretations and as long as you aren’t being bigoted about it or completely destroying the entire lesson meant to be taught by that character, I have no problem with you”.

And then I see them use a stigmatised medical term in a derogatory manner and suddenly the opinion feels less genuine and more bigoted. Especially when about a disabled or mentally ill character. Because you’re literally using medical terms as a way to insult this character and the people that like them, so like … you’re argument was solid until you made it about health.

I’ve seen this too many times. The way people refer to a character or the fans of this character being “delusional” or having “low empathy” instantly tells me that they haven’t got enough understanding of psychology to actually unpack why a lot of characters act the way they do or why people attach themselves to the characters they do.

The moment a person uses a medical term to discuss fandom opinions without proper nuance or analysis it becomes a disingenuous opinion because you literally don’t even know what the words you’re using mean, or you do and you’re an ableist/sanist dickwod.
