Played around with Google Data Studio today, so have some fandom stats 2020! Explore the data interactively by clicking the link.

Verdict on Data Studio: very fast and easy, decent style, but lacks functionality (I had to do the rolling average on the dataframe and then export to csv and upload to Google Sheets. Also, it somehow lacks the usual Plotly/Tableau capabilities to zoom and select/deselect traces at will on any plot). I will definitely use it again for fan-related stuff though, since the hosting is free and basic is good enough :)

Verdict on Avatar fandom 2020: Thriving! Zukka broke onto the scene in a big way, but Zutara is still going strong -- meanwhile Wuko and Kya/Lin add to the Legend of Korra ships.

Avatar: The Last Airbender works on AO3 in the year 2020

A noticeable increase in the number of works happens shortly after the release of A:TLA on USA Netflix. Other interesting trends are a sharp spike in Zutara and F/M in early August (due to @zutaraweek perhaps?), the new and steady popularity of Zukka, and not too much interest in Kinktober as evidenced by the barely-there bump in the Explicit category (contributors seem most interested in producing content with G and T ratings, and Gen is as popular as M/M and almost as popular as F/M, so this is probably to be expected given the target audience of the canon content). Although 6/10 of the most popular characters are female, they are represented in only 46% of total works. Their status as main or supporting characters, as calculated by their position in the character tags, cannot be determined from this data.
