17. Your favorite character to write this year? Orsino! As I mentioned in my answer to 'biggest surprise of the year', I was not expecting this at all. I had never written him before this year (heck, I'd written Meredith precisely once prior to this year), but I find him weirdly easy to write, from both a character motivation and a dialogue perspective (often I'll struggle with one or the other). I usually don't engage much with the mage side of fandom despite liking a lot of mage characters, so yeah... I really was not expecting to write so many stories set in The Gallows this year, lol. 28. Favorite work you wrote this year? Answered here with Between the Lines (Mass Effect; Alec/Ellen) & fire at the heart (Dragon Age; Meredith character study), so I guess I'm going with third-favourite now? 😅 I think probably either the end and the beginning (Meresino bodysharing), or Compromise (Cullen, Meredith's and Orsino's unfortunate love triangle) predominantly due to recency bias. I either love or loathe my most recently posted works, and I was quite happy with how both of these came out, and they're both fresh so I haven't reread them to death yet! Thanks!! It’s an Original fic I’m working on (and by working on I mean I wrote a little bit 3 years ago and haven’t touched since LOL). Basically the main character (Riz) is a florist. She comes from a very rich family, but was disowned in college. Her brother (who she is still in contact with) is one of those rich party boy socialites, always in the paper, drunk, drugs, what have you, but he loves his little sister! Anyway one day the guy she’d had a major crush on in College (who broke her heart pretty quickly) randomly appears in her floral shop. They get to talking, start forming a friendship, a lot of “will they/won’t they”. And then tragedy strikes and Riz’s brother is killed in a car accident after a night of partying and it nearly destroys her. There’s tension at his funeral between her and her parents that still shun her. I feel like it’s going to be overall a story about carving out your own path, finding love and support where you least expected it and not letting your past define you. And maybe one day I’ll write it LOL Ask me about my WIPs here

I don’t want to give too much away about this one as I’m planning to write it soon BUT:

Isabela decides to take Anders with her onto the ocean after the she meets him at The Pearl, changing the course of both of their lives forever. No solitary, no Wardens, no Kirkwall. Anders joins Isabela’s ship as her doctor and enthusiastic lover, and he’s never been happier. Everything is going swimmingly until they pick a strange elf from a shipwreck in the middle of the Venefication Sea, 3 weeks sailing off the coast of Rivain. Anders goes to heal the elf using magic, the elf pushes a hand into his chest, and Isabela puts her knife at the elf’s throat. Classic polyamorous meet-cute.

Merrill sticks her tongue out at him.

This is entirely immature of her, and the Keeper would scold her for it, but it makes her feel very much better.

And it makes Fenris laugh, too.

“You are impossible, witch,” he says, still laughing, low and quiet and somehow—private, not quite at her but not quite with her, either. There’s a difference that Merrill well knows, and this isn’t the unkind sort of laughter. Fenris only shakes his head, still chewing on his amusement.

Sadness slides down her throat, though Merrill couldn’t say why. She leaves the tea on the table to steam thinly.

“I don’t think I am,” Merrill says, around the lump. “Not anymore, anyway?”

Fenris pauses, and he looks at her out of the corner of his eye. The stillness of the morning is broken only by Iseth’s babbling, and it isn’t enough to distract either of them from the odd intensity in his gaze.

“No,” says Fenris, quietly, so quietly. “Perhaps you are not.”

11. What is the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to your OC?  Do they still feel ashamed for it? Were there any witnesses?

Berta was an exchange student for the summer between her junior and senior years of high school in a small town in southern Spain, Tomelloso.  She had a huge crush on Ángel, this amazingly gorgeous boy with big brown eyes and long lashes so her host family sister, Sophia, arranged for Berta and Sophia to hang out at a local club where Ángel and his friends would be that weekend. Berta had largely refrained from drinking alcohol while she was in Spain because she had no experience with alcohol other than watching the popular kids from her school party and drink and get kicked out of boarding school. But it was legal in Spain and she was really nervous about hanging out with Ángel.  So she may have had a drink or four (in her defense, Sophia kept plying her with these really fruity kiwi flavored vodka drinks).  When Ángel asked her to dance, she excitedly said yes.  But when they hit the dance floor, she felt dizzy and nauseated and immediately puked right in the middle of the gyrating crowd. Ángel looked horrified and everyone around them disgusted.  She immediately exclaimed, “¡Estoy tan embarazada!” which roughly translates to “I’m so pregnant!” not, “I’m so embarassed!”  Ángel slowly backed away and Berta begged Sophia to take her home. While that evening was bad enough, the fallout was worse.  A rumor went around town that the American girl was pregnant, a scandalous crime in this deeply Catholic and conservative small town, and resulted in Berta’s host mother sitting her down for a very uncomfortable conversation in which Berta had to explain that she was a virgin and it had all just been a big misunderstanding and that she meant to say “¡Estoy tan avergonzado!” (I’m so embarassed). Of course, Berta understood that it wasn’t all her fault, especially when Sophia started dating Ángel a week later.  For the rest of the summer, Berta tried to laugh off her embarrassment every time she was around Ángel and hide her hurt feelings from her host sister. She was glad when the summer was over.

This was a really hard one and luckily it's been asked more than once so I get to give different answers 👀

So I'm gonna get sappy on this tumblr post. I've had a goddamn year (haven't we all) and honestly would not have made it without some very dear friends.

At the beginning of June my father entered the hospital and was there, and then in hospice, for the entire month. He passed the day before father's day.

I wrote NOTHING in June until @schoute sent me a sexy Avvar armor mod for Varric to make me smile. I saw it, immediately had a thirsty need, and then wrote in almost real time with a whole discord server full of friends my smutty one-shot based on the mod: Spoils of the Avvar.

I've honestly never told them how much it meant to me to have their laughing support, encouragement, and joy while I was writing this silly, sexy smut for my OTP. At my darkest moments in June I honestly sat down a couple of times and felt like I was choking on things I needed to write and couldn't. I think I wanted to write something dark, terrible, and twisted in that moment.

What I needed was a burst of light, which is what this fic provided. It was the first time I'd been happy since and kind of reminded me I was going to be happy and sad in turns and reminded me that I've always had fun writing.

ANYWAY. Thanks to the ladies and theydies that supported me through that. Sorry to get depressing on main!

6. What’s your favourite piece of dialogue you wrote this year?

“Calm your tits, o great and terrible sorceress,” 

from Chapter 18 of Lonesome Dreams. Said by an OC to an OC.

7. What’s your favourite piece of description or narration?

She opened her mouth wide and it became a maw. The shriek turned into a roar. Flames burst forth, scorching the sand. Her arms spread into wings, she lifted herself up to a towering height, she flew up and up, only to swoop back down towards her quarry. Her fingers became talons to rip at the demon. The demon was puny now, a pinprick in her eye, a focal point for her wrath. The mindhunter, turned now into the hunted, scurried like the rat that it was, shooting ineffective ice spikes back at her as it ran.

Morrigan only awoke from her dream once she had killed the demon. She devoured Despair in her huge draconic mouth. It tasted of ash.

Then she was a dragon no more.

8. Which fic this year was most fun to write?

I’ve been having a lot of fun with my series “We Few Against the Wind” which is basically a huge multiple warden fic broken down into different stories for POV characters. I’ve posted a few works but my favorites to write have been the as yet unpublished Surana/Amell and Alistair/Morrigan stories.

As for something that’s posted.... Fucked Up In Firewater Garden was pure crack and I laughed so much at my own bad jokes that I don’t care if no one else finds it funny.

The Torture of Small Talk (with someone you used to know) was a trip to write because I hammered the whole thing out in one night while listening to the titular FOB song on repeat, like it was 2015 or something. It’s all angsty and sad and full of regret and poignant longing for a failed relationship and I enjoyed every fraught moment of it because I have no shame and sometimes it’s a burden to write couples who stay together even if they are an OTP, because like.... can’t relate....

13. When did you start writing fanfic?

as far as fic goes, at like... 12-ish?? in 7th grade I wrote two whole chapters of a harry potter fic that had ZERO conceivable plot, I just wanted to write about my favorites. and then I didn’t try fic again until like, early high school with a nartuo fic, also unfinished. hasn’t been until like the past year and a half/two years that i’ve actively been writing and actually FINISHING things lmao.

14. How do you feel about your older work?

oh boy. for as self-deprecating as I tend to be... I don’t hate it as much as you’d think. like... there’s a lot that’s cringey and heavy handed and it’s very clear what tropes I love, but like... that’s fine. I like that I can see some definite growth and development, even between more recent pieces.
