synopsis: across lifetimes and names, two souls find each other again and again, tangled in memory, haunted by love, and drawn toward a quiet kind of forever that always slips just out of reach. But maybe this time, for the fifth and last time, the story will end differently.

Silver Springs: The Fifth Beginning
In every universe, Regulus Black falls for you, and in every universe, it never quite ends the way it should.
The light spills over the coastline like it has loved this place for centuries, as if the sky itself leans closer just to press golden warmth against the earth one final time before letting go. It clings to the sea until the water gleams like molten glass, soft and glowing and endless, worn smooth by time and tide and memory. The wind is gentle as it moves through your hair and against your skin, not harsh or rushing, but slow, reverent. It carries the sound of waves folding against the shore in rhythm with a heartbeat that does not feel entirely like your own, and in the distance, gulls call out like they, too, are remembering something they cannot name. There is sweetness in the air, faint and warm and clinging to the edges of your senses, and it clutches at you like a scent from childhood or a line from a dream you forgot to finish.
Behind you, the town sleeps in that quiet way places do when the sun has dipped low enough to blur what is and what was, caught in the stillness between day and dusk. Windows glow faintly with the last light, and the streets are hushed.
You are not sure why you feel it in your chest, why your lungs strain to take in air that should be light and easy, why your heart aches like it’s pressing against the edge of something it cannot quite touch. But you know the feeling. You know it deep in your blood and beneath your ribs and in the place behind your eyes where dreams live. You know the way the air thickens like it does before a storm, not violent, not loud, but certain. You know the way your hands tremble with the weight of a memory that has not yet surfaced, the way your bones feel like they’ve walked this path before, even if your mind can’t follow.
He stands at the far end of the bridge, a silhouette caught in the halo of the sinking sun, still and certain and impossibly familiar, though you know with absolute certainty you’ve never seen him before. Or at least, not that you remember.
Your eyes catch on him and the world stills in a way that has nothing to do with wind or time or distance. It is the way your heart seems to falter mid-beat, the way your stomach curls not with fear but with something older and deeper, a kind of aching awe, like watching the moon rise where you did not expect it. Your fingers twitch as though they’ve held his before, as though they are already mourning the moment they’ll let go, and your throat tightens with the echo of words you’ve never said but feel certain you’ve lost.
There is something unspeakably tender in the way he looks up at you, not with recognition but with a kind of stillness that feels like remembering, like he too is reaching for something just beyond what his hands can touch. His eyes meet yours and you are no longer in this moment alone. You are in every moment that came before it, every lifetime that carried you to this one. The sea breathes behind him and you feel your body lean forward, not because you are falling, but because maybe this time you are meant to rise.
There is no logic to it, no reason your body should know the ghost of someone you’ve never met, no reason your bones should feel hollowed out by the ghost of someone you swear you’ve never touched, and yet your chest fills with a kind of quiet ache, that soft, aching joy that only comes from holding something beautiful with the full knowledge that it cannot stay.
He does not move, but his stillness is not empty — it is waiting, like a beginning folded carefully inside an ending you lived through once and forgot. And though you cannot name him, cannot place the history your heart insists is there, something in you remembers.
It remembers not just love, but the way love fades. It remembers the softness of touch and the way a story can unravel no matter how tightly it’s held. It remembers quiet departures and the silence left behind.
And still, even knowing none of this, you step forward.
As if drawn by fate, his voice finds you, not with certainty, but with the soft wonder of someone standing at the edge of something sacred, and though he does not yet understand why his chest feels too full or why the silence between you hums like a memory, he speaks anyway, like he has always been meant to.
"Have we met before?”
