Which of your fics are you most proud of?

Oh goodness, I don’t know. I mean...I think there are even different criteria by fandom, for what I would be proud of, and certainly by genre. 

I’ll give you two that immediately spring to mind: Never Leave A Trace and Paper Chase. For perhaps similar reasons, but not identical ones.

Never Leave A Trace eventually morphed into my novel Trace, and I think it was really an establishing moment for me because it was a genre -- Magical Realism -- that I wasn’t heavily familiar with but felt an immediate, visceral attraction to as soon as I started working on it. So in the sense that it became a standalone novel, and in the sense that it gave me a real direction to go in, I’m very proud.

Paper Chase is a Sherlock/White Collar crossover, which is very niche indeed, but the structure of the story, the idea of a cat-and-mouse chase with clues and such, was something I had wanted to write for a long time but never felt capable of writing. That predator-prey narrative is very hard to do well, and I had never managed to execute it in a way that I felt was fully correct until I wrote Paper Chase. So for me that was one of the really visible leaps forward in my writing ability. I’ve made others, but they’ve been more subtle, they’ve been an inchworm thing. This was like a leapfrog moment. 

So yeah, I guess those are two of many I’m proud of, even if there are others that maybe I like more as stories. I try to be proud of most of what I’ve done, because it’s all been a learning experience. :) I don’t always manage it, but I do try.
