One of the things that's fun about reading fanfiction for a bunch of unrelated works over a long period of time is seeing which tropes end up being disproportionately popular in a specific random, despite not being directly represented in canon.
And I don't just mean those times when fans are unhappy something did or didn't happen in canon so they collectively decide to ignore that, like batfamily fans ignoring Alfred's death. Or how fanlore for background characters and elements can become almost universally accepted as canon despite being entirely fan made, like how Danny Phantom fans made their invented character Wes so popular that his canonical AO3 tag has almost 800 fics. Those are both great too, but not what I'm talking about
I'm talking about those moments when every tenth fic for a show is a time travel fix it, despite time travel not existing in that story's universe. Or how some series seem to be a favorite playground for isekai crossovers. I just love how you can scroll through the fics for a piece of media and see how so many people had the exact same "what if" thought spurred by the same aspect of the original work and then all some share it with each other
I've been having very vivid dreams since I got here. A couple were fandom dreams. One was a Q/Picard dream in which Picard became a Q and started zipping around the ship. The crew kept telling Q to stop, and Q was like, "Not my doing! Take it up with the captain."
Then last night I had a very vivid dream about Elton John, who is a Days of My Youth blorbo. It was a whole sprawling epic alternate timeline. Very disappointing to wake up from. Your blorbos can ressurect at any time, kids.
in fairness, i’m congenitally allergic to babyfic and i don’t think i’ve ever encountered one where the infant got named something that felt aesthetically plausible to me in context, but—i really was not braced for the one i stumbled upon last night where they went with ‘zombor’

Major Character Death Warning
This is sort of a M*A*S*H question but also an AO3-warnings question.
In a post-GFA story where Frank Burns never actually appears as a character but the reader finds out during the story that Burns is dead, do you have to tick the Major Character Death Warning tickbox? Technically yes because Burns is a major and so if he dies this is a Major Character Death. Technically no because he's not a major character in the story in which he dies. Which is it? Asking for a friend.
If Frank Burns is not a major character in the story in which his death is mentioned, is this a Warn For Major Character Death situation?
Yes, you can never have too many warnings
Yes, Frank Burns is a Major Character
No, Frank Burns is not a major character in the story, no warning
No, if you tick that warning people will feel misled
None of the above, I have another opinion and I will add it in the tags
I hate warnings I don't care what you do
No True Pair is open for sign-ups for its spring mini-round! \o/
(A very laid back writing fest where you make a list of 4 characters you want to write about (fannish, multifannish, OCs) and a set of random prompts.
(You can make multiple lists if you like. I think you may need a Dreamwidth account to sign-up etc, but that's free to do & is a fan-run site anyway.)
I had loads of fun with the 8 Character round in September! (Just which characters do I put down? How many lists??? XD)
